Gold.
While Zero was quite uncertain what gold actually was, the way she described it made him feel like he hadn’t seen it yet, and he wondered if it would be his favorite as well. It all made sense, the thought suddenly snapped into his mind. People always asked ‘what’s your favorite color’ and the question had always confused him until just now. There were so many options. How could one decide? While the darkness of the black was soothing, comforting, familiar, he found he enjoyed the brilliance of the sky and the beautiful shade of Bridgette’s eyes.
He thought about how to answer the question he asked, all the while shifting his weight so to compensate for the many, now loose, pages in his grasp.
“The color of your eyes.” He said thoughtfully. He didn’t mean anything by it, he just didn’t know the word that matched the shade. “I think I like that one.” Satisfied as they came to a halt outside the library, the Carpathian grimaced. He could already smell the billions of pages.
How long had he stayed away? How much knowledge was there? Perhaps there was information on his race in one of the books, or one of those boxes that had a screen that could answer anything. Maybe he’d try that.
Shifting his weight Zero managed to tuck the destroyed cook book under his arm as he leaned forward and snatched the door, pulling it open and holding it for Bridgette, shooting a glare as some guy walked by and nearly bumped into the little baker. His protectiveness was spiking it seemed, and it was more hard not to just run after him cursing. He inhaled and relaxed, seconds later, trying to grasp this want. Kill. Maim. Destroy. The three words summed up what he’d been doing for his whole life.
“After you.”

A gentleman. That was how Bridgette now viewed Zero. Though conflicted it seemed from the way he reacted to the very things that happened around him, he soon embraced ideals like he was but a lad. How interesting he was now becoming in her eyes. The marks on her wrist started to diminish which meant she would not require attention to them. She gently eased her ruffled sleeve down over her wrist, and stood waiting to enter the library as Zero tucked the loose pages beneath his arm and then said “After you.”

To this, Bridgette offered a shy smile, and took the steps to enter the library. By the sounds of voices and the movement of others they were not alone anymore. It was not surprising since this would be one of the few places in the Mansion where you are able to unlock certain mysteries, in particular the very ones you would have about yourself. Bridgette knew that she was human, for she had no real special talents. She couldn’t move at the speed of light, nor could she vanish from view at a whim. What she did know, in the solitude of her room was that she was able to bend her body into ways that one would not regard as normal. Flexible, would be the word you would use to describe her ability. Of course, her past remained just that, and haunted her as much as it did many others in the mansion. She had not sought out others to question them of how they came to be in the Mansion, though at night when she lay to rest, it was first and foremost in her mind.

The scent of the many books on the shelves gave her a sense of peace.

Turning to Zero, she then extended her hands and asked.

“I would er…be ‘appy to see if the book can be..er..bound again.” Bridgette didn’t know the librarian, but hoped that someone in the library could be of assistance. Her fingers would just caress the very back of his hand, in a gentle way.

Already Zero disliked this place, unlike his companion who seemed, if nothing else, completely relieved and relaxed to be here. There were so many…people. His sharply tuned, somewhat pointed, ears heard a voice asking ‘May I help you’ from somewhere unseen and this only made him tense all the more. Great. He waited until Bridgette was inside, not minding the little silent girl who was popping in and out of view, and let the door fall after him, simply focusing on the baker. She was the anchor, his anchor, that kept him from running around and gracing certain residents with a nice fist to the face.
When she stepped up to him and her fingers barely brushed against the skin on his hands he couldn’t help but smile. It was goofy and looked weird on his face, since honestly they were both used to a growl or a glare, or blunt rage.
“I have to come with you.” He insisted. “It was my fault the book ended this way.” A nod was given as he handed the pages over to her. Hell he’d give her anything…And just like that the Carpathian was caught in those bright orbs of her’s and he sighed softly before breaking away and sharply turning his head. The moment of affection and care was abruptly disrupted by the over bearing need to protect and in this strange place he wasn’t about to mess around with such a task so he stuck next to Bridgette like glue, or an overly attached mutt, and rolled his shoulders back slightly.
Only then did he answer the voice of an unseen being.
“We need assistance with…re-binding a broken book.” Broken being used lightly as the book was plain destroyed, though the pages were still in tact, just honestly needed cleaning. “If of course you have the materials.” The mansion had everything, he wasn’t sure why he was asking…Yet somehow felt it necessary.

The Library.

The Mansion truly had to be one of the strangest places that Bridgette had ever encountered. The masked being that had asked as to the pair’s plight, soon became distracted by something large outside the window and instead of offering assistance took off out the door.

Blinking, Bridgette was not sure how to respond and in behind her a stack of books was knocked onto the floor by another member of the household. This soon had a young lady going over to assist, leaving Bridgette and Zero to fend for themselves with the destroyed book. Sighing softly, Bridgette gestured towards one of the desks that had some supplies and binding materials. A help your self desk, if you will. Bridgette moved slowly, with her full skirts creating a hush sound as they swept over the carpeted floor.

With the necessary equipment, Bridgette then asked Zero; “We…can fix it ‘ere, yes?” The young baker then went to get a small jug of water and some rags to dab away the blood from the splattered pages, while the binder and glues would be able to be used to put the many pages back together.

Bridgette now believed that the Librarian was not in, and only those that sought to find out information about themselves and their predicament in being trapped in the Mansion were on hand.

Coming back with the water jug and cloth, Bridgette took a seat and used her hand to gesture that perhaps Zero could do the same. If they worked together, the task should not take long at all.

Re: Library

Zero frowned to himself as the voice seemed to get distracted and wander off. Great. Like he knew how to work a library! A growl would have previously formed if he hadn’t been trying so hard to be….good. A tiny sigh passed through his lips as he watched Bridgette look around, almost helplessly. If only he knew how to make books. Grumbling he was about to go sniff out anybody he could find but she spoke just then, in her adorable accent.
When she sat down he took a couple steps closer and then she beckoned and a chuckle escaped him gently before joining her. He sniffed at the jug of water and then looked at the pages they had to work with.
“Here.”
The butler started to flip through the pages, withdrawing the ones that had been soiled by the erh…certain blood bag that’d been tossed by a certain Carpathian. Pulling the papers that were touched with red free of the stack, he set them aside carefully and set up the papers in the proper order so that it’d be easy to put the papers back.
“You wipe the blood, well dab really. Wiping might ruin or rip the paper. I’ll pull the papers out and give them to you and put them back when you’re done. Then we can work on binding….Or try to figure it out.” It was the most he had spoken at once and honestly he didn’t find himself minding as he sat down next to the baker, flipping through the cookbook as he retrieved the pages. There weren’t many, but there were a couple with large blotches that consumed most of the page. He worked silently, golden hues lowered as he seemed completely focused on the task at hand, As he slid the papers over to Bridgette one at a time, he’d take the ones that were recently cleaned and find their proper place in the cook book.
He hoped that it would make her feel better. To put a lock on their…interesting hour long past. He wanted to see her smile…And it was the motivation.

The Library

Placing the jug of water down carefully, Bridgette started with the worst pages. Blood spots like ink blots that were varied in the size and colour. To get each out would require care on her part, and Zero suggested that dabbing would work much better, as wiping would only spread the blood further onto the pages. Happy with this advice, Bridgette took a cloth and with a single digit she dipped the cloth into the water before starting to dab lightly upon the first page. The trick worked, much to Bridgette’s delight. Zero would be able to see the slight crease upward as her lips curled into a smile, that widened as she tried a second page, and then a third. Each piece of paper handled delicately, like it was a great work of art or manuscript to a play – not some humble cook book.

Zero took each page after it was cleaned, putting them back in chronological order which would make the binding so much easier. The stack of papers grew and grew until finally the damage had been cleaned away. With Zero sitting close by, and working with Bridgette they made light work of what was quite a task.

Once all the pages were done, Bridgette reached for some binding tape. This would form the arc or spine of the newly fashioned book, and then she would attach the binding to the original book’s cover. To watch her work, Zero would see the slight pink tip of her tongue, that edged out past her lips as she concentrated on the task. As she closed the cover finally, she pressed a hand to the cover and let out a great sigh of relief.

“It’s…good as new, Zero.” She said with a soft voice, passing the book to him to see for himself that through their team work, they had been able to save the treasured tome.

“I am…most er…grateful to you.” Again with the smile, Bridgette tilted her head slightly to the right to catch sight of his warm ember colored eyes.

Re: Library

When the book was completed, Zero paused and looked down at it and sighed in relief. Thank the everything, thank the colors. He couldn’t have stood to see this little plan backfiring, to see it not working out as well as it had, to destroy the book a SECOND time. He shook his head and ran a hand through his hair, ruffling it slightly as she expressed gratitude, something that made him freeze.
People cursed and yelled and gave him the stink eye. Thank you was so foreign. He couldn’t stop the smile that broke out.
“No don’t thank me. Thank you Bridgette.” He said thoughtfully, trying to put the right words to voice what he was saying. Carefully he reached over and brushed a lock of her beautiful chestnut locks and tucked a strand behind her ear and then withdrew his hand sharply as if he realized he made a mistake. The next words spoken had such care, admiration, and affection strewn into them, spoken in no more than a whisper, he found it almost hard to believe it’d been from him.
“You showed me the world.”
A genuine smile as he got up and slid away from the desk and bit the inside of his cheek. He wanted to carry her off and go explore this new world. He wanted to brush a hand over her cheek and feel her lips. He wanted to taste how sweet her blood was and make her his. But he had just met her, and this overwhelming affection would drive her away, or so he figured. This sensitivity to others was new, annoying almost, but he respected…Respected her.
“It’s late.” The Carpthian said to distract himself from the growing want. He wanted nothing more than to stay there and talk, but it was rather late out by now and he didn’t want to keep her up, she was human after all. A grin. “I hope we cross paths again Bridgette.”
He turned to walk out of the library, forcing himself not to look back over his shoulder. Lords. Maybe he’d never feel this way about another, but as he departed he felt more uneasy and he could feel the darkness dancing beneath the surface.
She was truly his light.

The Library

The quiet hush of the library was replaced by the soft words spoken by Zero. Bridgette stole a glance of how he ran his slender fingers back through his hair and ruffled it in a nervous gesture. All this so new to him. Kindness and thanks shown after what had started as a terrible quarrel. A warmth in the blush of Bridgette’s cheeks blossomed as Zero said he needed no thanks, but that he was thankful for her. Not only had he brought color to his black and white world, she had shown forgiveness. A rare and beautiful gift, in this dark place.

Not taking her eyes off his, when Zero moved to brush back a lock of her hair, Bridgette bowed her head ever slightly – savoring the coolness of his delicate touch. Each second passing, each word causing her chest to swell as she caught her breath and held it. For a moment, she was simply lost for words, and only when he went to stand and said that it was getting late, did she remember that it was late for her. As a baker she was always up at the crack of dawn, not only to make her pastries but to catch that beautiful golden light as the Sun rose over the horizon.

Bridgette gently eased her chair back and then stepped out, so that she could push the chair neatly back in place. Forgetting the book and the fact she was in this most public place in the Library, Bridgette crossed the floor to where Zero stood, and then she went up on tip toes and kissed both of his cheeks delicately. Her lips feather soft as they brushed the cool of his skin.

“Merci…Zero. We will…meet again.”

She seemed to stand in that same place for a minute, then remembered the book, and spun on her heel to go fetch it. Bridgette didn”t want to turn the book in. Not now. This book was a symbol of her and Zero’s budding friendship. Catching the book up and holding it tight to her bosom, she then gave a curt bob, before hurrying out of the library and turning the corner to head up the stairs to her room. Like a bird in flight she ascended the stairs, only to disappear around a corner.

Re: Library

Hearing the baker’s footsteps had caused Zero to halt his departure and turn somewhat, just in time for Bridgette to plant a soft kiss on each of his cheeks. This was not something he could have guessed would happen and he felt a strange tingling sensation on his cheeks and crinkled his nose a bit trying to figure out what was happening to him as she walked off, hopefully towards her room to get some rest after the trying day. He chuckled, remembering that she had slapped him earlier but was now kissing his cheeks.
“I hope so Bridgette.”
But she was long gone and the Carpathian cleaned up the supplies that they had used, making sure that the area that had been so convenient was left clean for the next desperate person who needed it. The male left the library without hesitation, honestly annoyed with all the different smells from the thousands of books, and headed towards his room down the hallway. The two seemed to be roomed on the same floor, it was a wonder they hadn’t met before, but he was a bit grateful for that. It just made him cherish the moments all the more.

Kitchen

As Niko approached the kitchens with his new companion in tow, the tension in the air was quite palpable. In fact it was making his hair stand on end just a bit. Luckily for him he didn’t really feel like he had a lot to worry about, the kitchens were his domain and his giant companion was intimidating on his own. He sideways glanced at the baker girl with curiosity as he stepped on into the kitchen, whatever trouble she had gotten herself into with the angry butler were her own problems. Niko could be fickle and selfish like that, sometimes he wanted to stir the pot and other times he wanted nothing to do with other people’s troubles. “This way my friend, ignore the caveman and the damsel, unless you want drama” Niko smirked, waving to Bridgette as he skipped into the kitchen.

Entering the kitchen with his hands on his hips, he narrowed his eyes as he looked around. Even though the kitchen was technically a common area, Niko was very protective of the kitchen and hated when people didn’t bother putting things away or in the wrong spot. When they did it was hell trying to coordinate dinner with the other chefs for the household. Once he decided that his area was in order, he was content to get on with business. Closing his eyes, he began to take in the cacophony of smells, enjoying each one as he gradually filtered through them trying to find the one from the shirt. He stood there a long while in silence before sighing and shrugging his shoulders. He couldn’t pick up a strong scent here so that probably meant she hadn’t been here recently, least of all not in the last several hours.

“I don’t think she’s been in here recently…..” he said with a pout. He figured it was going to be easy to find her, everyone had to eat so her scent should have been there. However it wasn’t strong enough to tell where she came or went from, so it wasn’t use mentioning. “I could use a snack, you hungry?” he perked up, throwing open the doors to the cabinets as he scanned the contents for ideas. Pancakes? Cookies? Grilled cheese? It was hard to decide with so many possibilities!

Playing the Giant – Douglas

The doorways that lead to different rooms were only so high. More than adequate for your average size human, but when you are a giant, they are a little bit on the short side. Following his new companion in the search for the gold thief, the Giant happened upon the small group that included the Vampire butler, the french baker and the other couple, that all appeared to be in a stand off of sorts. The fox had a point that it was probably a good idea to ignore the fuss, since the Giant had more pressing matters, like ringing the thief’s neck. Rather than acknowledge the gathering, he merely sneered at them and turned to walk through the kitchen door way…which he hit…with his head.

“Damned confounded…ill made piece of CRAP!” Yes, he meant the door frame, which had a rather nasty dent in it. The Giant lowered his frame slightly and ducked under the door frame; making his way into the Mansion’s kitchen. The work place of the Fox and the heart of the Mansion.

As one would expect, the kitchen was in pristine condition, thanks to one of the other chefs having cleaned up after the Vampire had made a mess. The floors, bench tops and other surfaces were all spotless. There was the heavenly scent of the french rolls and pastries that the French baker had made earlier, and it didn’t take long for the Giant to find them. In fact, he was about to pop one of the delicious morsels into his mouth, when the Fox declared that the girl the Giant searched for, had not been in the Kitchen’s recently. That meant one thing. She was obviously not a member of the kitchen staff, and thus, she could be ticked off that list of workers.

“Meh!” Duggie blurted as his search in the kitchen would come to nothing. The good part was, that the Giant was a bit peckish. In fact, he could eat a stag, and have room for desert. The fox was offering to cook up something, which really was very nice of him. It was his job after all. The Giant stroked his ginger and silver beard, and then gave a nod.

The hunt could continue, right after he had a good feed.

Sitting himself down on what would be the meat cutting board, the Giant asked;

“Got any baby back ribs?”

Re: Kitchen
August 11, 2014 09:28AM
Relief. It was a cool and enjoyable emotion that feverishly tore it’s way through the Carpathian when the little maid didn’t just run off at the speed of light. He DID want to apologize. He KNEW he was being a horse’s ass. But at the same time he wasn’t about to just let Sir Lancelot, the name he’d given the guy with the massive hair, ride in and take away his…girl? No. His…
The words failed him as the male seemed to back down and agreed to part ways from there on. Zero’s shoulders seemed to relax but his eyes were still aflame with protection, overly so, and readiness to pounce into action and start throwing punches. Just then, just when he thought that there would be a break and the two would scoot on their way, the little fairy woman met his gaze and decided it wise to step closer.
It was a moment of miscalculation on both ends. The closer she got the more Zero got on edge, like the hair standing up on a spooked cat, and the more tense he became the harder it was to control the urge to snap around and begin breaking things. This overbearing anger he’d lived with for centuries, he didn’t know any better.
The butler shifted slightly, ignoring the new arrivals who tromped right to the kitchen – they were quite wise -, and turned his head to watch the fairy, Alexander now down the hall to his right, the two girls at his left. Then the fairy woman touched Bridgette’s wrist and a warning sounded, a single throaty snarl that broke the silence of the tension riddled hallway.
It seemed like ages but finally the two were on their way, seemingly, and the Carpathian’s gaze lessened and faded back to a golden tint and then the awkwardness set in. He didn’t look at the baker, not wanting to process what had just happened, and decided to kneel down, picking up the loose papers one at a time and seemingly interested in their order, making sure it was numerical.
He didn’t speak.
It was evolving, the raging monster within him was. He’d do whatever this girl said, but she didn’t realize that yet, thankfully. He’d protect her…Which would come off as unwanted help. This he knew. He knew he’d just be lounging in the shadows. It was the only thing he wanted. The closeness. And the only way he knew how to express it was to be brash.
A huff.
Making a mental note to work on his attitude, he kept cleaning up the papers. Finally asking the question that was tearing away at him internally.
“Did I actually hurt you?”

“Ember..!”

Alexander’s tone took that of a slight panicked one as Ember pulled away from him and headed past the vampire towards the other woman. He noticed the tension in the other man rise as he glared daggers at Ember. As she got closer to the baker, she took hold of her wrist, which made the vampire jump and release a snarl.

“Do not dare..”

Alexander shot him a warning through gritted teeth. As Ember spoke to the woman and returned to him, he released a sigh of relief. Taking hold of her hand, he held tightly on to it, afraid she might try to do something rash once more. He began to pull her in the kitchen and away from the other two, just as two other people walked in…well..calling them people was probably not the right term since one seemed to have cat like ears and a tail attacked while one was naturally huge. Leading to him hitting the wall above the doorway as he tried to walk in. Hurriedly he pulled Ember to the back of the kitchen where all the plates, silverware and vases were. Once there, releasing his tight grip on her hand and letting out a breath of relief.

As he calmed down his racing heart, he turned to Ember now with an almost upset look in his eyes, his brows furrowed.

“That was so dangerous and uncalled for!”

He began as he turned to face her. The anger quickly fading through as he took hold of her shoulders and looked her over.

“Did he hurt you by any chance while you passed him? Tell me quickly if i have missed anything he might have done to you. Such a man that treats women with such disrespect cannot be forgiven!”

As he realized that the other two individuals were also in the kitchen having a snack while conversing, Alexander quickly lowered his voice. Releasing his grip on Ember as he covered his mouth, lowering his gaze and turning his head away a bit with a soft apology at his behavior.

Ember was trying to keep calm as Alexander took her in the kitchen. She was still lightly trembling but seemed in a daze. When he spoke she jumped slightly not expecting him to say anything, much less in a loud voice. She looked at him and noticed the upset look on his face. Was he mad at her? Disappointed? She wasnt sure but she didnt like it. Her eyes became watery as she was close to tears. She was still recovering from all the tension and fear and now he was upset with her.

“I had to make sure she was alright. I couldnt just leave her without checking.” She told him. Even her voice was trembling and it cracked. She could see the anger fade away as he grabbed her shoulders.

“He didnt hurt me. He may have wanted to but he didnt.” She said to him. As he let her go she seemed to slide down to where she was sitting on the floor. His grip had kept her up longer than her legs were willing to. On the floor she hugged her knees and put her forehead on them as her tears finally spilt over and ran down her face.

She trembled still with fear and now with her sobs. Something about that mad had terrified her. And it wasnt just how he was but how it felt she had met someone like him. Possessive, abusive, cruel. She couldnt remember who she had met like that. It was in her missing memories. But the feeling that she once knew someone like that, that she had been on the receiving end of the person’s cruelties terrified her.

She had heard Alexander apologize for his behavior but she was crying too hard to speak to him. Too scared of what her past held. But she wanted to know what it help. What happened to her?

Kitchen

“Ribs? As a snack? You’ll ruin your dinner” Niko scolded with a wag of his finger. It was incredibly annoying to slave away in the kitchen making dinner for the entire household, and then someone decided to eat only a hour before so they’re not hungry and a plate goes to waste. Although on second thought with the size of the giant it was entirely possible ribs were just a snack for him, he looked like he could eat a whole cow as an appetizer.

“Fine, I’ll see what we’ve got” he huffed, opening the doors to the enormous refrigerator/meat locker to see what they had in storage. He remembered distinctly coming in to work with the smell of braised ribs the other day, so if there were any left they’d probably be hidden away in here. And if they were all gone, the giant would just have to settle, because Niko did not feel like waiting around several hours to slow cook ribs to perfection.

“Oh lucky you, there’s leftovers” Niko called out, huffing and puffing as he carried a whole half rack covered in foil to the counter. There was no name on the wrappings so that meant fair game in a kitchen like this. He hummed to himself as he ventured over to preheat the oven and from there went to the closet to retrieve his apron, washed and rinsed his hands in the sink, and then set about unwrapping and plating the ribs. Since they’d been in the freezer they needed to thaw for a bit, so that gave Niko time to make new sauce. He pulled whiskey from the cabinet, some ketchup, dark brown sugar and a cup of vinegar from the fridge and mixed them in a bowl. Tasting it with his finger, he returned to the fridge for lemon juice and the cabinet for Worcestershire sauce and added those to the bowl as well. Satisfied with the taste he poured the sauce into a saucepan and began to heat it on the stove. As he cooked Niko seemed to be in his own little world, blocking out anyone and anything else that might interrupt him. His eyes glazed over like he was reminiscing about memories, despite the fact no one remembered anything before the mansion. Once the oven was done heating, he took the ribs out and painted them up with his fresh sauce, he set them down on the counter with a huff of effort.

“Eat up” Niko sighed happily, resting his elbows on the counter and his chin in his hands. He’d get around to cleaning up while the giant ate, but for now he just wanted to bask in the aroma of food. Nothing else made him happier, aside from eating that is.

Alexander was taken by surprise when Ember began shaking, her eyes filled with tears before she keeled down and cried while hugging her knees tightly to her chest. At this point, Alexander looked a bit panicked. What had he done? What did he say?! Should he apologize to her once more? Kneeling down in front of her, he looked to her with sincere worry.

He whispered her name before reaching a hesitant hand towards her and gently pressing it against the top of her head. She was very shaken, and for what reason, he did not understand. He didnt know if he was at fault but…at this point he felt responsible. They were hidden behind the shelving of the silverware and plates, out of the view of the other two in the kitchen.

Bitting down on his bottom lip, he finally could not hold back any longer as he took hold of her shoulders and pulled her against his frame in a tight embrace. The need to hold her tightly and comfort her took over.

“Sh…its ok, i wont let anything hurt you i promise.” He whispered to her soothingly as he gently pulled her in his lap while sitting against the nearest wall. His arms wrapped tightly around her small frame to subdue her shaking.

Ember didnt react to him at all until he grabbed her shoulders and pulled her against him. She let go of her knees to keep from going off balance. Still upset though she gripped onto him and ended up with her face in his collar. She grunted lightly as she was moved, almost like a rag doll, and was placed in his lap.

Him holding her seemed to help her calm down. She didnt feel so alone. And he wasnt hurting her. Though being held and comforted felt very new to her. It took her a few minutes to stop crying and trembling. She coughed as she tried to catch her breath. Her head hurt as well. She relaxed the death grip she had on Alexander but didnt fully let go. “Im sorry.” She said quietly.

She lifted her head and looked at him. Her eyes were puffy and red from the crying. “Im sorry. I didnt mean to upset you. Or worry you. But I couldnt go without making sure she was alright.” She looked down. “That man… The way he acted triggered something. Before I came here and lost my memories I must have known someone like him. Been a victim of whoever it was. I dont understand it but it terrifies me.” She explained. She felt he deserved an explanation for her breakdown. “Thank you for not leaving me to cry alone.”

She took a deep breath still recovering. She became aware of his arms around her. A light blush formed as she looked at him. “Um… Where are the flowers? Th…They need to be placed in water. They’ve gone too long without it already.” She told him trying to go back to normalcy.

The Kitchen – Just outside

Playing Bridgette

The French baker had not ever been the centre of attention before in her time at the Mansion. To feel the girl approach her even in the face of the angered Zero, she naturally shied away when asked if she would ask for help if needed. A slow nod was her only response, for she could hear Zero growling in the back ground, and the last thing she wanted was for him to lay a hand on the other girl. The other gentleman drew the girl back to him, and together they moved on from the scene, leaving Bridgette and Zero alone once more. Another pair had been past and gone straight into the kitchen, but thankfully they knew better than to get involved in the disagreement.

Bridgette released something of a sigh of relief when at last silence had returned. The Vampire Butler’s eyes returned to their ember hue and the knelt down and started to pick up the last of the fallen books pages, one by one. He made sure they were in numerical order and tapped them on the floor as they were finally back in a sense of order. The French baker didn’t leave his side. For some reason, Bridgette felt they had unfinished words to say to the other.

”Hmmph. Did I actually hurt you?”

The French baker did not answer straight away. She glanced down at her swollen wrist and then said. ”Oui.” She wasn’t about to lie to him. ”I…vill get zome ice on it.” Bridgette was about to turn and go into the kitchen, when she stopped a moment and then asked quietly. ”Vhat….did I do to youz?” She was now curious as to why he had acted the way he had. The heat of the moment had passed, and Zero had gone on and on that she had cursed him, done something to him that hurt him. But what was it?

Bridgette felt she needed to know.

The Kitchen

Playing the Giant – Douglas

The Giant pulled open a drawer that was close by to where he was sitting, and withdrew a long metal skewer. Slamming the drawer shut, he started to used it like a toothpick, to clean away at the spaces between his enormous teeth, while waiting to see if the fox could find him some baby back ribs. ~Pick pick pick~ went the metal instrument, the Giant’s head tilting back and forth as he grunted unceremoniously. He could just spy the fox’s tail weaving upward from behind one of the long stream line middle kitchen benches as he searched for ribs. The Giant had to admit, that this little fur ball was actually dutiful and also quite useful thus far. Offering to sniff out the girl using the frilly white shirt, and now actually preparing him a meal to starve off his growing hunger.

”Ahhh, there’s a good laddie.” The Giant sung out, on seeing the whole half rack covered in foil and being placed up on the kitchen bench by the little fox. He’s come up trumps. The sound of the gas being turned on for the ovens meant that this meal was going to be one to enjoy, even if it took a bit of time to heat up. Duggie had decided that the search for the girl could wait a bit – his stomach being far more important at the moment.

Tossing the metal skewer away haphazardly behind him, he drew up his empty flagon of scotch and let out a sigh. ”What kind of lassie wastes a good drop of scotch…I ask you.” He gave the deflated looking bladder a shake, before putting it back on over his shoulder. The Giant’s temper seemed to be cooling. Maybe it was due to the delicious smells that were coming from the strange concoction that the fox was mixing together in the bowl. He clearly knew his way around the kitchen. This interested the Giant, who had only a few loves in this world – one of them being food.

”Ere…’ow long you been a cookie?” The giant asked, as he watched the little fox go about his work. Course the greatest moment came when the fox brought out the ribs from the oven, and then with a brush painted over the glaze on the cooking meat. It was enough to have Duggie practically salivating. With his big hands, he tore off one of the ribs and began to feast upon it. Slobbering and gnawing at the bone like he had not eaten for a good week or more.

”Now this…this is what I call…a meal for a King. Ahaha!” The juices were slowly running down his chin as he chewed heartily. ”You’re a keeper…wee foxy.” That was a compliment if ever he had said one.

Re: Kitchen
August 12, 2014 10:21AM
The Carpathian’s golden hues moved swiftly as he collected the papers, a nice couple stacks going as he was separating them by chapter, for some odd reason he felt like he had to. When Bridgette replied he visibly twitched. He knew enough French to know that meant yes. And he felt the familiar fire, the anger, boiling up inside of him. But this time he had nobody to lash out to. He had done this to himself. He was mad at only himself.
He inhaled sharply and collected the last paper, placing it on top and then putting the chapters together. It looked alright, but there was a trace of red where the blood had to be either gently cleaned out or the paper needed to be discarded. He stood up and held the remains of the cook book in his hands as she spoke about ice and then turned to leave.
Zero assumed that would be it but then she asked him what she had done and he, for the first time, believed she didn’t know. How could he explain this? He set the pile of papers down on the window sill to their right in the hallway. Words failed him. Without the vocabulary it was hard to explain…Color was foreign.
The butler walked to the wallpaper and pointed to a black spot in the intricate vintage looking design. “This..” He said and then shifted his finger to the accompanying gray. “And this…” And then looked around, catching sight of the wall trim that was white, dusty, but white. “…And that. Those..three..and variations.” He sounded like a lunatic. “That was all I could see. Everything was this and this and that.” He pointed to each color in the same order respectively. “There was no…” and then his hand shifted and pointed out the window where the brilliantly blue sky could be seen. “Or…No…” And then it was the green lamp shade of one of the many lights in the hallway. Then to the softer green carpet on the floor. Then to the red on the book. “Then I saw you…And it happened at once. And now I can see everything.”
Well he gave it his best shot.
“I thought it was a curse..But…I am not sure what happened.” He rubbed his head reliving the moment and exhaled. “I…” Zero paused and then straightened his vest almost nervously. “I was scared, with everything being so…bright. And I attacked you, because I blamed you. I’m sorry. It’s all I know how to do. While it was happening I knew I didn’t want to hurt you.”

The Kitchen

Playing Bridgette

For a shy and reclusive girl like Bridgette, it was a great change to see her actually trying to hold a conversation with a man that had only moments earlier threatened her. But curiosity in the man had now been engaged due to his rapid mood changes. He was a kaleidoscope of different emotions that oddly enough she seemed to trigger. What was this connection between her and his moods? She simply had to know.

The Vampire had gone about gathering up the last of the pages of the damaged cook book, in some sense of order, and yet now the girl was staring at him, wanting to know how it was that she had caused him pain. The book was forgotten for now.

As he set down the book on the window ledge and then started to point out various patterns on the wallpaper, to explain how he had only been able to see in black, white and grey; Bridgette came to think that perhaps he had been color blind. How else could he only see the world robbed of the magnificence of color? Her eyes followed each sample he pointed to, and she hung on each phrase as they passed from his lips.

It was when he started to point out the change, how there was no blue of the sky or green of the lamp before he had met her, that she started to see his dilemma. From a colorless world, all of a sudden the shock of the brilliance of color would indeed caused him distress….pain perhaps. But it was the fact that it was on meeting her, that this incredulous change occurred. To the Vampire, it would have seemed like a kind of magic, a curse even. He admitted that it had scared him greatly, and thus he reacted as he had, thinking she had caused this.

Bridgette approached him slowly. Each step perfectly placed. The butler had been more than honest with her right now, and she felt she owed him the best explanation she could give.

She actually reached out and touched his chest with her small right hand. Her fingers lightly pressed to his vest.

“It waz not me….It waz your heart.” She believed that his heart had started to beat again. Whatever she did was not some spell, or enchantment. “You are…zeeing color…because…you velt something in your heart.”

Kitchen

Niko shrugged in response to the gisnt’s question, he couldn’t recall having ever cooked anything before this mansion. “Ever since I woke up here I suppose. I just….already know somehow. I don’t use recipes most of the time, I know by taste or smell if it’s right or wrong” he explained, crunching up and folding the foil into a square on a whim. He tossed it over his shoulder aiming for the trash can but missed. Shrugging again he went over and put it away properly and then headed for the sink to lather up and wash his hands.

For some reason what the giant had said about a meal for a King made Niko angry, the hair on his tail began to bristle and he found himself gnashing his teeth together. The idea of serving a king infuriated him for reasons unknown….hah! Niko serving a king! Absolutely preposterous! That coupled with the way he misnamed his race made him spin about and stare down the giant. “I am NO servant and you are NOT a king! I am a kitsune not some foolish little forest vermin, and I’d soon see proper respect or that meat will turn to ashes in your mouth!” he threatened with a real fire in his eyes. The air crackled a bit when the static electricity began to buildup in his tail, which could only mean the production of fox fire for a kitsune. His features also seemed to stretch and elongate, taking on a more feral and menacing look. It was a subtle change however, almost like a trick of the light, where you had to look twice just to be sure anything had changed at all. The work of his illusions for sure, already painting doubt in the minds of any in his audience.

Niko wasn’t sure why the giants words were setting him off like that, but it just felt so insulting! He was the one who deserved people waiting on him hand and foot, not some pompous human who got their power from decades and centuries of inbreeding! He deserved worship and praise and…..what? Where had those ideas come from? It puzzled and confused the kitsune enough that he seemed to settle back into himself. “I…..will not apologize” Niko finally said, going back about cleaning up the ingredients and cookware he had displaced. “I have a temper and a short fuse, and apparently you’ve found one way to light that fuse. I am NOT a servant, I do NOT serve royalty or anyone else! I am at the neck and call of none but my own desires. I cook in this mansion because I want to and because I enjoy it, and you only get to eat because I am not wasteful, understood?” he declared with a certain air of finality, somewhat like a parent laying down the law for a child. He was nearly done wiping down the counters now and he still held a right frown and tenseness in his body. Whatever he had been and done before this mansion was clearly clashing with the idea of serving others, but Niko had no clue why.

“Can we get back to looking for the thief now?” he asked with his back turned to the giant, washing his hands once more.

As she calmed down, Alexander also released a sigh of relief. Gazing down at her, she offered her a gentle smile before taking her chin between his thumb and index finger. He brought his fingers up her cheeks afterwards to wipe away any traces of tears that might have been left.

“Feeling better?”

He asked in a soft voice, the hand on her upper arm gently rubbing it to keep her calm. However, she asked about the flowers then, and his eyes instantly went wide. Turning his head away he pressed a fisted hand against his forehead and cursed under his breath. He had left them back in the hallway. The bastard vampire better have not stomped them to death….Lifting her up and gently putting her back on the floor, Alexander quickly stood back to his feet.

“I will go get them, you can tart preparing the vases. I’ll be back soon.”

Was she feeling better? Ember wasnt completely sure if she did or not. She was calm but now her head hurt and she wanted to lay down. She took a breath and nodded anyway. “Yes.” She told him. At least she wasnt crying anymore.

She watched his reaction about the flowers. Figuring they had been left behind she hoped the guy hadnt done anything to him. She made a small noise as he lifted her up and moved her to the floor. Was she really that light that he could move her like a rag doll? She watched him stand and nodded. “Alright then.”

She stood up and sighed a bit. She noticed the other two in the kitchen. She ignored them and got some vases and started filling them about halfway with water waiting for Alexander to come back.

Kitchen

The Giant sat with half the rib hanging out of his mouth, when the little furry creature went absolutely ballistic over a comment that the Giant had made, which had been done as a compliment, but totally taken the wrong way. Niko had just finished saying how he could not recall anything before winding up in the mansion, which was something that the Giant and he both shared. But on the compliment about the meal being one that was fit for a King, the kitsune went apeshit.

Even the hair on his tail went all fuzzy like, bristling as the tiny creature raged on the Giant. Now you have to remember there is a great size difference between the two and to see something so small give the Giant a piece of his mind, it was quite a sight.

. “I am NO servant and you are NOT a king! I am a kitsune not some foolish little forest vermin, and I’d soon see proper respect or that meat will turn to ashes in your mouth!”

”Woah…woah little laddie. I think you got what I said all wrong….eh?’ The Giant put both hands up as though to try and calm the little fellow, but the kitsune was already starting to charge up – with eyes like fire and the crackling of energy radiating about his form. The situation and the Kitsune were both heating up and it needed to be dealt with. Even the features on the little fellow were growing and sharpening. The Giant had said a faux pas and hadn’t even realized it.

”Aye, I am no King…and I am sure you are no servant laddie. Will ya just calm ya clacks?” He almost begged the little fellow. He actually had a small soft spot for Niko as he viewed him as something of a new friend – a rarity within this crazy house. On and on the Kitsune sprouted, ramming home that he was no one’s servant, he cooked for the house because he wanted too, not because he was ordered to. It was like being at teachers night….really.

At the end of the emotional tirade, the Giant surrended. He waved the frilly shirt like it was a white flag. ”I give…Really am sorry, little one. It was a very good meal…just saying.” Getting up off the meat cutting board, which groaned after being relieved of the Giant’s bulk, the Giant wiped his mouth with the frilly shirt and then said.

”Right, back on the trail then, laddie.”

Of course Zero tensed when the little baker neared, somehow thinking that in the midst of their heart to heart she was going to slap him again or something, but when she placed her dainty hand on his chest he seemed taken aback, confused, and almost afraid to move, though his shoulders slowly relaxed once again.
Bridgette went about explaining how it was his heart and he, being the cold loner he was, couldn’t really see that…Or understand it really..He couldn’t fathom the concept of a muscle in his chest controlling sight. But the way she said it made him believe her, somewhere in the back of his head, and he didn’t argue the point, assuming he’d find out later what everything meant. All these troublesome emotions were flying around. He was like an angst riddled teenager.
Color must be the term to describe the shades that he wasn’t used to seeing, the butler concluded, not wanting to sound idiotic by asking. Color. The word repeated in his head as he thought about the new found world around him. Maybe this place wasn’t such a lifeless pit after all.
It was only then that he realized how calm he’d become as he looked down at the girl before him. He caught himself staring at her eyes, they were so beautiful, and looked away for half a second before looking back.
“I’m Zero.”
Through thick and thin never once had they had a chance to exchange names, though he didn’t really blame her for not shouting her name while they were exchanging glares and such. And honestly he couldn’t think of a reply to her words about heart. He didn’t want to reply. Maybe it was this impending fear that he was changing so swiftly..

It did not take long for Alexander and Ember to reach the kitchen area. Walking down the hall while making small talk, throwing a joke here and there in hoped to raise a laugh from her. It simply seemed to him that, sadly, Ember was not someone whom showed her smile very often, or laughed with others. There was a mysterious aura about her. She was pleasant company never the less. A beautiful lady any man would love to take out for a peaceful walk. But this peaceful walk would not last long.

As they reached the kitchen’s entrance, Alexander noticed from a distance two others standing near the door. Quite close to one another too, which at first made him believe they were lovers.

“Oh my…we have probably come at a bad time..”

He whispered to Ember as he glanced down at her. However, turning his blue hues back to the two, he noticed the girl struggling, an uncomfortable look on her face as the male seemed to be enjoying her struggles, a wide grin upon his lips. This made Alexander furrow his brows in concern and confusion as to what he was seeing. Was She being attacked?!

“Please stay close to me Ember.”

He whispered as he gave her a gentle smile, trying to stay calm as his blue hues gazed at her. Coming in closer proximity, he could hear their conversation better. And in doing so, Alexander could not keep silent any longer.

‘What a vulgar way to treat a lady….what wrong has she done for you to handle a woman so carelessly?”

Alexander’s voice was sharp with a hint of anger. Such behaviors was uncalled for, and to see someone disrespect a young lady as such angered him. His muscles tightened a bit as he glared at the other male, but still kept close to Ember, worried for her safety with such a brute wandering around.

Ember didnt mind the small talk while walking. She did notice jokes he made but she didnt really laugh. Just acknowledged them. She wasnt trying to be rude. She did feel at ease with him around. He seemed kind and easy going. Though inside holding his arm she did notice he felt warm. She thought it was just an outside thing but it did have her distracted wondering if he was always warm.

Once arriving at the kitchen doorway she seen the two there. Though Alexander seemed relaxed at first seeing them Ember tensed up. It looked like a couple but she felt it was off. Something seemed wrong to her. His whispering the first time let her know he didnt see anything odd. The second time let her know that it wasnt just her. The girl seemed in danger.

Doing as she was asked she stayed close to Alexander and watched the two concerned for the girl. As Alexander made them being there known she grabbed a single rose. She watched the two and waited for something to happen but as she did the rose wrapped around her wrist and the end lengthened to where it looked like a thorn whip. She would only use it if she had to. It was a power she kept hidden till now. She could manipulate plants.

At the baker’s pitiful excuse of an attack on his hygiene, Zero seemed to pause. Taken aback for a few fleeting seconds at her area of focus, and then chuckled, loudly. He found it amusing, how the girl tried to defend herself, throwing on a brave face to her attacker. Cute wasn’t quite the right word. Enthralling rather.
The male leaned forward, closing the space between the two before his lips parted.
“You tell me.” The butler uttered before inhaling and slowly exhaling right at her face, an amuse filled smirk on his face before he straightened again, his fingers wrapped around her dainty wrist tightly. He was just debating what to do with her…Bouncing back and forth between just letting her go or trying his best to toy with the French maiden a bit more.
But then the entertainment showed up.
A human, hardly worth the effort it was to look over his shoulder, the only visible honey colored hue glistening as it glowed with the want to light the petty man aflame. And a girl who looked none too strong. A foolish endeavor it was for them to stumble across the raging Carpathian who wouldn’t blink twice before killing them where they stood. There was no crime that he knew of in the mansion, but he was fine with being the first breech in security. As long as they didn’t mess with him, he wouldn’t have to waste his time on them.
“Nothing. She’s done absolutely nothing.” He said honestly, as she hadn’t. All the girl had done, since the beginning, was defend herself, even if she caused him pain, the likes of which he’d never felt before in all his days. So much pain. His head throbbed slightly from the reminder and he grimaced before looking back at Bridgette.
“I’d suggest minding your own business. I’ve no quarrel with using your face to clean the floor.” Savage added all the while staring down at Bridgette, his hold on her neither loosening nor tightening. Carpathians were especially gifted power wise. They specialized in elemental magic but also dark and light magic, depending on the person, as one could imagine he was on the darker end. They had telepathy with one another and slight shapeshifting, though their forms were set to a few animals and/or swarming.
“Unless of course you’d like a fight?” Zero questioned, perking a brow as he shifted slightly so his right side was facing the human and the girl, dragging Bridgette with him. He’d let her go if she was quiet. Honestly they had all the time in the world to get to know each other. He was in no rush.

Just outside the kitchen

The quarrel if one could call it that had garnered the attention of two other people, who had come across a scene that they probably never expected to see. A french maiden dangling from the vice like grip of Zero, who held her up so high that her feet were barely touching the floor. Her whole body was straightened, her skirts swaying gently.

You had to give it to Bridgette for she didn’t cry or scream but rather took to using an offensive verbal attack that was to make his second guess his breath. Sadly, the idea made him amused if anything. His diabolical smirk showing after he purposely inhaled then exhaled right in her face after asking her to tell him just how bad his breath was. Bridgette squinted her eyes shut and went to hold her breath, much like you would if you were being dunked under water – all so she didn’t have to breathe him in.

Finally gasping for breath, her head turned to that of what would be her saviors.

“What a vulgar way to treat a lady….what wrong has she done for you to handle a woman so carelessly?” The man who had approached, spoke with a tone of anger at Zero and for a moment, she really thought that Zero would loosen his grip, possibly toss her away in the light of the charge of abuse. The young girl who accompanied the man stayed close at his side, but Bridgette noticed that she fashioned a vine like whip, using only a single rose stem. Were these people actually prepared to fight the Vampire to save her? Bridgette had seen the power that the vampire possessed. She knew he was strong…very strong and if angered could cause both these innocent people great harm. It was one thing to try and call him off, it was another to attack. Bridgette was dragged away slightly when Zero taunted the pair, asking them if they really wanted a fight. She didn’t want anyone to get hurt. This day had turned into a virtual nightmare already, and the baker couldn’t let anyone else suffer Zero’s wrath.

She stared at the pair and with a shaking voice she begged;

“Pleaze….do notz vight ‘im. I…I be okayz.”

Bridgette knew that she wasn’t. Held in the vice like grip she had run out of options to fight back.

Re: Kitchen

Alexander’s gaze sharpened as the man almost taunted him by saying that the woman has done nothing. So absurd was he that he would attack a lady whom was simply minding his own business? How wrong in the head was this man? Then again it could have been pure rage, which he simply decided to take it out on a defenseless lady. What cowardice. He glanced towards Ember as she reached over to his arm that cradled the flowers and picked a rose. His eyes widened lightly as he saw her turn it in to a thorn.

“Ember…you are…”

He started to speak, but his attention was turned back to the male before him as he threw a threat towards him. Clean the floors with his face…honestly Alexander has heard worse threats than that. Or..at least he was not fearful of this one in the last. Alexander’s blue hues darkened, his anger building up towards this vulgar being. But a gentleman ways kept his head cool and never threw the first punch. Violence was not Alexander’s way, not to mention his physique was not that good either. He always felt hot, and had to watch his step for sometimes he would become dizzy for no particular reason. Unlike this male whom looked to be better built and could have him by the neck in one move. No…that was best avoided. Releasing a soft breath, Alexander closed his eyes and lowered his head lightly, as if begging the other male.

“I understand that you might feel an attraction to this lady, and from the looks of it this might be the first you feel such. However there are other ways to get her to pay attention to you than brute force. You are hurting her currently, can you not see how frightened you are making her? I ask you to please put the madame down and release her hands before you leave unnecessary bruises. Being forceful might be to your liking, but when the other person does not desire to be handled in such ways, that is purely making you look like a tyrant.”

Alexander then unfolded his arm to release Ember before holding his arm before her to let her know that he wished for her to remain back. He also offered her the rest of the flowers to hold on to as he stepped towards the two involved in the quarrel. The madame that was held in the tight grip quickly begged for them not to fight, promising that she would be just fine. However her eyes showed the intensity of her fear despite how hard she tried to hide it. It saddened Alexander to see a lady handled like a rag doll by such a psychopathic man. He did not know his reasons or what he had against her. But he knew this was not right.

“I beg of you again, sire, please put her down.” Alexander spoke again, holding his hand out a bit in please.

Ember watched the man carefully. Every move he made wouldnt go unnoticed. Something seemed to click in her to where she wasnt really the shy fairy anymore. She had fear still but she wasnt backing down. It seemed Zero was messing with the girl for no reason. She hadnt done anything to warrent his actions by the sound of it.

She could see his amusement of herself and Alexander showing up and stepping in. His words were a warning not to step in and leave them be. If it was a different senario maybe she would. But she couldnt let him hurt the girl. She could tell he wasnt bluffing though. Measuring his strength and rumors of how strong he was she feared they didnt stand a chance. She couldnt help but feel that maybe Zero wanted to fight.

She looked at the girl as she spoke saying she would be fine and didnt want them to fight. Ember shook her head. She could tell that she was scared. Probably was hurting from being held up too. If it was her she might do the same. Try to protect others from getting hurt and just take the pain herself. But she would still want someone to help her. Not just walk away and leave her.

She glanced at Alexander as he lowered his arm. She let it go and waited like he wanted her to. It felt odd to just wait though. her instincts were telling her to run, but at the same time was telling her to stand her ground and be prepared. She took the flowers as they were handed to her. She held them in one arm and flicked her arm back with the rose whip. If Zero made a move to harm the girl further or Alexander, she would be ready to strike.

She was aware it might not be the smartest move but she hoped the thorns could be enough to distract him while they got away from him. She watched Alexander talk to Zero. Try to reason with him. She hoped it worked but had a bad feeling it wouldnt. Standing at the ready she watched each and every one of them. Catching the moves made listening to every word.

Zero had to give it to the little baker. She knew how to put on a brave face and feign strength where it was needed. Admiration, it was very subtle but it was there. Humans were so petty, and yet there she was, unable to move really, and saying she didn’t want a fight.
The Carpathian seemed to ponder this thought and released his grip slowly, looking at her with a new expression, though his back was still to the two in the hallway. He seemed to be put off by the French girl’s words and was thinking them over. All would have been well, had the other bigot not decided to lecture him. He had the nerve to talk to Savage like he was a child. Well. Children were prone to tantrums.
Before Bridgette could run off, if she wanted to, Mr Savage simply shifted his weight and clucked his tongue in thought.
“I’ll apologize later.”
He decided upon that and he made a promise to do so. His behavior was thrown off by the world around him, by the feelings tumbling forward like a tidal wave.
At the same time Alexander took a single step forward and time seemed to still. Zero twisted on his heel, looking quite elegant in the butlers suit. A deep chuckle rolled from his lips as he rose his fingers and straightened his tie, shaking his head as he stepped forward and met Alexander, his shoes brushing over fallen papers.
“That wasn’t very smart…” He said, for the second time in under ten minutes, to his amusement, his head raising sharply. The once golden hues were blaring red and glowed heavily in the hallway, as there was a change in the atmosphere.

https://i1.wp.com/31.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_l39hnaUqC21qbg16co1_500.gif

Zero was positioned between the two and Bridgette. It’d be protective if he hadn’t just held her hostage for all of five minutes. He didn’t want them near her. Suddenly it dawned on him. He didn’t want anybody near her ever. Cue stalking. He glared at the two in the hallway.
“Move. Along.” The Carpathian left no room for argument. It was the final warning, the final chance to turn and go to the kitchen and be on their merry way. If Alexander or his little fairy took another step…Zero rose a hand. He made a shooing motion to them. Leave now. Or they’d both regret the consequences. If they tried to get near Bridgette…The same applied.

Kitchen

Bridgette could feel the slight loosening of the grip that Zero had upon her wrist. His amber golden eyes staring her down as she made her impassioned plea for the others to not get involved. Her own heart quickening for reasons other than fear it was something else entirely that was happening between them. The man that held her was a whirl of changing emotions like that of a chameleon almost. From rage, to regret, to anger and now….now he was releasing her. Slowly she could feel the tips of her feet touching the floor, and then her heels settling down. Every slowly letting her go.

The young french baker was still blocked by his tall form as he had his back to the couple that happened upon them during their quarrel. Bridgette caught in Zero’s gaze however. She was too scared to move, even though he said.

“I’ll apologize later.”

Bridgette brought her free hand up and stroked the reddened marks that were now set into her porcelain like flesh. It would take some time for the mark he had made on her to fade. The girl swallowed though her mouth felt dry. She tried to run her tongue across her lips – a show of nerves.

“Merci.” Bridgette replied, her left foot sliding back as she attempted to go back to where she had come from. It was then she saw the scattered pages of the beloved book still strewn like autumn leaves all over the carpeted floor of the hall. That still had to be picked up and gathered to take back to the library for certain. She was about to start picking them up, when Zero turned on the two saviors that had happened along and seen them and he made sure he kept himself between them and her. She was unsure as to why he was doing this. Bridgette didn’t know the people as she had kept to herself since arriving in the manor. Nervously, she ran her slender hands down her apron and really didn’t know what to do. Zero was waving the people away, to move along. Would they?

Alexander flinched when the male turned to face them at that point, straightening his tie before lifting his gaze to meet his own. He had not seen his eyes before then, so to Alexander, the first glimpse he got was of crimson red hues. ‘Demon?’ Was the single word like question that had passed through Alexander’s mind as he meet those eyes with his own aqua blue ones.

As he moved between the maid, Ember and himself, Alexander could not help but quickly take the step back and shielding Ember by stepping in front of her frame. What a strange turn of events. Instead of getting a threatening atmosphere from this demon, he now felt as if he was trying to protect the other female?..Just as he had believed before, this man was unstable. He told them to leave now, letting them know that this was their last chance to take their leave.

Alexander meet his challenger’s eyes, an uneasy and tense look in his own. However he slowly turned them to the maid that was now free. Surprisingly, she was still there and had not dashed off or tried to hide, or even call for help. But she simply stared with curiosity written all over her face. This confused Alexander greatly, and made it even more clear to him that she had no fear of this tyrant either, nor a care if he was to slam her against a wall again.

“So be it..”

Alexander commented almost through gritted teeth. In other situation he would have not let this bastard insult his pride, however, he was not the only one in the line of fire here. Turning to Ember he leaned down to whisper to her as he pressed his hand against the middle of her back.

“She seems to be fine and no longer in need of assistance. They have finally moved out of the way also so lets head on our way without wasting anymore time.”

He then turned and with his hand still pressed gently against the middle of Ember’s back, he began to lead her towards the kitchen, a hard look in his eyes as they passed the demon. Alexander giving him a long-side glare. This would not be the only time he would encounter such a person, and it saddened as well as irritated him to know that such a man inhabited the same place he now lived in.

Ember watched everything. She was glad the girl was let go but noticed her wrist was red. She was concerned for her but she didnt get a long look cause the male moved and blocked her view. She didnt like how he was being. Too forceful. Possessive. Dangerous. He reminded her of someone but she didnt know who it was. Just it made her very uncomfortable.

She looked at Alexander as he seemed to step down unhappily. She bit her lip and looked at him then at the guy. She knew she was about to do something very stupid. She changed the rose whip to just a regular rose again. She passed the flowers to Alexander. “I’ll be right back.” She told him.

She looked at the guy square in the eyes. “Im going to make sure her wrist is alright.” She told him and walked quickly around him and went to the girl.

She looked at her and smiled at her softly. “Hey if you need help seek it ok?” She told her. She carefully took the wrist that had been captive. She looked it over carefully. her touch was very light. “You might want to ice that. It looks like it might bruise. The ice should help to not bruise as bad.” She told her.

She didnt want to leave her but the longer she was by the girl the more she felt in danger. If she was granted being left alone she would give the girl a small worried smile and then go back to Alexander keeping a good distance from the guy. She wanted away from him. Far away. She stayed close to Alexander as he guided her toward the kitchen. She hoped he didnt notice that she was trembling.

One would think that there was nothing odd about the house and grounds. But if one were to investigate, they would discover that beneath the home are massive caverns housing Shane’s vampire coven. Shane and Carmen protect all who seek sanctuary within their walls, Shane having done this for over a millenia before Carmen came into his life and shared his burden. Woe be the one who tries to harm this unusual family.

Last time…

Shane and Carmen’s estate – Kitchen/ family room

Little did the Egyptian Queen holding control of Carmen’s body understand just how close Carmen was to all the people that inhabited the Williamson Estate. It was like a real family, and acted like one in the modern era. Shane of course was the head, but Carmen was the Queen so she usually had the final word when it came to how the house was run, as well as those that served under them.

Bianca was dishing up a meal in the dog bowl for Tala, when the back sliding door opened from the pool and Amelia wandered in. Now the Witch was just as much a part of the family, as the vampires were and given special privileges since she was residing in the pool house. She had missed a lot of the excitement of late, but she had spotted Carmen return home with Shane and thought she would come over to welcome her back.

image

Amelia approached Carmen for one of her usual hugs, which she did a lot. Amelia was just the kind of girl who shared affection easily. What happened next would leave Amelia reeling. As Amelia went to put her arms around Carmen, she suddenly got a flash of another woman, a top a throne all dressed in Egyptian finery. She was seated beside a man, who for the life of Amelia seemed so familiar it was scary. But it wasn’t Shane. The woman was laughing as a woman was being tied to a stake in the middle of a chamber. The chamber had a special dome like roof, and when the Queen raised the blood chalice, the dome roof top started to inch back, causing a small ray of sunlight to beat down on the woman tied to the post. It was cooking the girl alive. Was she another vampire? The man on the throne next to her was laughing and then taking up the Queen/Carmen’s hand and kissing it. They were both enjoying watching the woman turn to ash. Amelia instantly drew back and stared at Carmen with a horrified face. She looked at Jarvis, who had just come down the stairs and saw Amelia standing there, stunned.

image

“Amelia…what is it?”

Amelia cringed and then fled the house, running across to the pool house and slamming the door. No vampires could enter the pool house, except Shane…or Bianca.

Shane re entered the room only to see Amelia running out. He glanced at Mary, who was looking at Carmen oddly too, then he looked at Carmen.

“Is everything alright?” Clearly…it was far from that.

Shane and Carmen’s Bedroom
Neema took a deep breath before she turned to open the door. Shane’s facial expression was one of worry and concern. Seeing this, Carmen’s subconcious was suffused with love.

-Take that, bitch!- she thought savagely.

Neema growled at her before she prepared to put on the performance of a lifetime.

“I’m fine. Drinking that blood must have affected me a bit. I’m feeling a bit off. I’ll be right as rain by tomorrow.” She gave him a smile full of love while inside, she wanted to throw up.

She wrapped her arms around his neck and pressed her body tight to his.

“We still have some time before daybreak.” she purred, scraping her nails along the sensitive skin of his neck. She slipped her mouth over his, lips caressing in a seductive dance.

It was enough to make her physically ill…but it had to be done.

Shane and Carmen’s Bedroom.

CharlotteCarrendar.

It was not normal for Shane to actually pull back from his love, especially when she was giving him a sizzling hot kiss.  Shane was often very much intune with his beloved, but there was something off in the way she was acting.  Blood did not normally affect her moods, and when she had fed on the archeologist, she seemed perfectly fine afterwards.  It was only the reactions that everyone else was having that had him concerned.  Shane let out something of a concerned growling noise, and then instead he raised his hand to her left cheek cupping it.  His sea coloured blue eyes locked on hers as though he was trying to speak to her mind.  The problem was he was not getting a response.  ~Can you hear me?~ He said to her mind.  Still nothing.  Taking her at her word, saying how she would be fine in the next eve, he did something out of character.

“Since the blood has made you ill, I suggest you get some rest.  Feel free to call up the twins if you wish….for that sort of affection.”

The blonde Vampire then drew his hand back, and headed to the door.  He gave her one last look, before leaving her to her own devices.  Shane was not stupid.  He had a suspicion that something wasn’t right, and would go back down stairs to talk to Mary, possibly Amelia since she had fled after touching Carmen.  With the door closed behind him, Carmen or Neema could rest.  But would she?

Inside Neema’s mind, Carmen was laughing her head off at Shane’s rebuff.

=What’s so damn funny?= Neema snarled at the woman.

-Shane knows on some level that you’re not me and I think that’s the funniest, fucking thing in the world!-

=I should kill you now and be done with you.=

-You can try, Little Bitch. You can certainly try, but if you do that, well…Shane will know…and there would be nowhere you can hide from his wrath.-

Neema raged because she knew Carmen was right. She could easily detected the bond between Carmen and her mate and that there was no way to break it without Shane knowing about it. She paced back and forth in the room, wondering what to do next. She couldn’t search the house with everyone still awake. Sunlight was less then 2 hours away. She would have to do her searching then.

There was a knock on the closed door and wondering who it could be, Neema moved closer.

“Who is it?” she demanded.

“It’s Ethan and Evan, Mistress. We are but your humble servants. We sensed your disquiet and were concerned.” came a male voice through the door. Neema yanked open the door and saw the twins standing there.

image

She frowned. “Why are you here?”

“We sensed your upset.” the one on the right said.

=Who are these fools?= she demanded, staring at the two of them.

-That’s for me to know and you to never find out.- Carmen snickered.

It took everything in her to not start going on a tear. Neema took a deep breath as she stared at the two men before her.

“I am fine. Just tired. Thank you for your concern.”

“Is there anything we can help you with?” the one on the left asked.

“No. I just need sleep. Thank you.” And with that, she closed the door in their faces. Evan looked at his brother, a frown marring his features. Ethan shook his head and directed his brother away from the closed door.

“Who was that?” Ethan wondered.

“I do not know, but that is not our Mistress. Something happened when they went to the museum.” Evan replied.

“We need to tell the Master.”

“Let’s go.” The two men went in search of their coven Master, worried about the state of affairs in the house.

Mary was in the lounge when the twins appeared.

“Have you seen the Master?” Ethan asked.

“Yes, he just went out to the poolhouse to speak to Amelia. Why?”

“There is something wrong with our Mistress. She is not her.” Evan stated. Mary jumped to her feet, startling them both.

“I KNEW IT!” she crowed. She grabbed them both by the arms and yanked them onto the couch. “Tell me everything.” She demanded…

Amelia’s Pool House.

image

Lighting a few candles in her lounge area, Amelia was getting ready to do some meditation to ease her troubled mind after the horrors she saw when she touched Carmen.  Something was not right in that house.  She even glanced over her shoulder to stare at the large manor, only to see a shadow that lurked outside her door.  The pool house was off limits but to only a handful of those that resided within Shane and Carmen’s house.  And that was pretty much Shane and Carmen.  Jarvis was simply not allowed, after he had shown time and again he could not seem to restrain himself around Amelia.  The poor fool could only love her from afar, until such times he could control his urges – his desire to make her like him.

Shane stood outside Amelia’s door, clearly troubled by what he had just experienced.  A coldness to his love that was never there before.  His inner voice trying to find hers and getting nothing but silence.  Something had happened at the Museum.  He was sure of it now.  In a way, he felt the only person that could possibly understand was Amelia.  Her reaction to flee the house now put weight to his concerns.  Shane tapped lightly on the door, only for it to open all by itself.  Charmed by the witch that dwelled within.

“You sensed it too?”  That was Amelia’s question as she turned away from her arrangement of candles and blew out the large striker match.

Shane entered, his hands behind his back and the door closed in behind him.  With a grim expression he nodded.  “I know my wife.  That…creature in our bedroom right now, is not her.”

Amelia set down the dead match, and crossed the floor to where Shane was standing.  She stared up at him with inquisitive eyes.  “What exactly did you do tonight, before you both came home?”  Amelia was sure that whatever they did, had something to do with this change in Carmen.  Shane took a seat on Amelia’s black leather couch and she followed over to sit beside him.  He leaned back, as he started to recant the night’s events.

“We went to the museum.  More or less for answers to the riddle of the box that we found at Vincent’s burnt out manor.  It was covered in Egyptian hieroglyphics….”    Amelia sat bolt upright on hearing what he said.  “Shane!  When I went to hug Carmen, I had a vision.  It was not of this time, it was not even in this country.  It was…in Egypt.”  Now, Shane’s brows furrowed.  “What did you see?”  He turned his body to face Amelia’s.  Her hindsight and visions were proving to be astonishing, to say the least.  Amelia took Shane’s hands in hers and then she opened up her mind, so that Shane himself could see exactly what Amelia had.   An Eygptian Goddess.  A woman of great beauty upon a throne of Gold and jewels.  She looked exactly like Carmen.  Amelia’s body trembled and her pupils moved rapidly under her closed lids.  The further that Shane pressed on to see the vision, the more it hurt the girl.  A sacrifice of….a vampire to the Sun.

Shane suddenly let go of Amelia’s hands as the vision disappeared.  The woman in the vision….could that be who had taken over Carmen’s mind….her body?

Suddenly Shane jumped to his feet.

“The box!”  He yelled out.  The creature in Carmen must be after the box.  The one that he found in Vincent’s safe.  “I need to wake up that blood doll we brought back from the museum.  That box….there is something inside that box….that everyone wants.”  Amelia had no idea about the box, but its mystery was to become the centre point to why Carmen changed.  Amelia reached for Shane’s hand.  “What about Carmen?”  She was sure that Carmen was possessed by whoever previously owned the box.  Shane rushed for the door.  He called out over his shoulder.  “I want you to figure out a way, to free her from that bitch in her head!”

As Shane left the pool house, Amelia went to call Charmaine.  She was going to need the help of her sister witches for this.

A Fallen Mansion, Bridgette, butler, creative writing., dialogue, drama, french, maid, role p;ay, scene setting., supernatural, vampire

Roleplay Background.

A Fallen Mansion.

Willum, the sole owner of the mansion’s property, has long since passed away. Sona, his younger sister, did watch over the mansion after his death, but one day disappeared with her entire family, consisting of Loren and their daughter and her daughter’s boyfriend.
However, the mansion’s legacy still continues.
The new owner continues what Willum started. People who are robbed of life, dying in the outside world before they are given a chance to fully live, are plucked away from reality and tossed into this side realm. Here, their memories are swiftly erased and never talked about, as they wake knowing their name and highly basic information, and they are offered a chance to live in the safety of the mansion.
Occasionally some try to escape. Reaching the gates will only result in confusion, a ward to keep the occupants away. Opening the gates, or attempting to rather, will get a person a shock.
Each person is given a ‘job’, be it house keeping or cooking or even gardening. Males are no longer only butlers, but allowed to do the job they please.

The kitchens can be used by everybody and anybody. They are open to the public and the cupboards will never run out of stock. On the fridge is a single pad of paper. If an ingredient or something along those lines cannot be found, write down what you require, and it will show up in the kitchen.

Though it is quite large, the chefs normally take over half the kitchen for dinner, the only meal they are required to make for the mansion.

Kitchen

Bridgette always made sure that when she chose her time to use the kitchen to create her pastries, she did so just after the first rays of light. Dressing in apparel that were more suited to the kitchens, such as a sweeping long skirt with full apron. A light hair net caught her hair up in a petite bun, and she wore a small white hat on the top of her head, to tuck in any wisps of loose hair. Bridgette’s light footsteps often went unheard as she made her way quickly from her room on one of the upper floors, down to the kitchens. A shy girl by all accounts, she kept very much to herself. She cradled her favorite cook book in her arms tight to her bosom as she entered the kitchen; always making sure that she had beat the other chefs. As they took up so much space to cook when doing the dinner meals, Bridgette came down when people were scarce.

Placing down her treasured tome on one of the gleaming kitchen cupboards, she set about getting all the right ingredients to make some pastries and rolls for those that wished breakfast. Bridgette already knew the kitchen like the back of her hand, and soon had all her utensils, trays, mixing bowls and ingredients lined up before her.

She always made sure her hands were washed before beginning, and also setting the ovens at the right temperature.

The reason Bridgette settled so easily into this role, was it a job that she didn’t have to take orders from another, or even have to be social. Bridgette often hummed a quaint tune as she set about her work, kneading dough and then twisting up the scrolls. The kitchen would have a delicious scent, once she popped her creations into the ovens to cook. While they did cook, she cleaned away her work station, and then would read up on some other recipes that she might try over the coming days.

https://i0.wp.com/37.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m61ob0Di6K1rvkw6no1_500.gif

Her cook book was a tatty one and well loved. Signed by the original author, it had been a wonderful find in the Mansion’s library. Bridgette knew that she would eventually have to return the book, but for now she was still using it to help her create her delicious fare.

Re: Kitchen
August 01, 2014 08:44AM
Mornings were dull.
Overrated really. If not unnecessary all together.
An ever lasting night was much more desirable. But mornings. They had to be Satan spawn. The brilliant rays of light that ripped through the gorgeous scene painted by the moon and the stars, the first glimpse of sunlight desecrating the serenity that had been put together through the witching hours. The dew that caressed every blade of grass. The crisp, frosty, air. To most it was refreshing, pretty even, but to Zero it was Hell.
Perhaps it was fate that the Carpathian butler stepped into the kitchen that morning, already dressed to wander around the mansion and make sure everybody was alright, a task he disliked quite much. He wore recently pressed slacks and dress shoes, glistening from an afternoon polish just yesterday. Over the simple, gray, button up shirt was a jet black vest and his messy blue hair was untouched as the male hardly cared for attention nor asked for it.
His slender body, standing at the full height of 6’3″, paused, scanning the kitchen once before golden hues found the target. Moving around the counter, he hardly noticed the baker doing her thing, as he reached the fridge and ripped it open, tearing through the contents messily and without care, creating quite the ruckus. Finally gloved hands reached the plastic, shoved far behind the normal ingredients.
Withdrawing and turning, he held the bag of blood in his fingers and slammed the door to the fridge shut, tossing the meal into the microwave just to heat it up, as cold blood wasn’t entirely a delicacy. While he was doing this, he reached upwards, his back to the baker, and dug through cupboards, leaving items scattered around and cluttering the already hectic countertops all the more. Had he common sense he’d see that it might annoy the girl he had only seen out of the corner of his eyes, but at the given point in time, he was hardly concerned with the feelings of others.
Eventually the microwave dinged and the butler placed a wine glass on the granite and poured the steaming blood inside, tossing the empty bag quite close to where the baker was working, not noticing as the trash landed on her open cook book. He turned, placed his rump against the curved edge of the counter, his legs crossing at the ankles, and pulled the shining crystal to his lips, taking the first sip. In the same motion he was staring at the back of the maid, eyes lowered from her perfect little neck to her ass, hidden by the thick skirt, but there never the less, and capturing all his attention.

Re: Kitchen
August 01, 2014 09:38AM
There was a tranquility to the setting within the kitchen in the waking hours that only Bridgette appreciated. It was why she choose to do her baking long before others stirred. A quiet time to cook, and to read in the solitude of the spacious kitchen. To have it all to herself was one of the few blessings of being what felt like a prisoner in this house.

But like all good things, they often come to an abrupt end. Whilst the baker waited patiently for her buns and pastries to cook, and had her treasured cook book open on one of the work benches, a man of slender build and with gaunt features ruined what was to be a pleasant morning. With no care at all, he swanned into the kitchen and set about causing a ruckus, that was so loud that it startled the french maid. Glancing up from a recipe on how to prepare Chausson aux Pommes, the young girl stared at the back of the Carpathian butler, who was rummaging through the refrigerator, like a raccoon digging through a garbage can. When he retrieved a plastic flagon that had a familiar crimson tint, the maid realized that he must surely be one of the Vampires that she had heard all about. Amazing how the walls had ears. Thinking that he must be done, now he had his prized blood pack, she bent her head down to continue to read, only to then hear him digging about through a variety of different cupboards. Bridgette’s hair on the back of her neck practically stood on end. Did he not realize that the room amplified ever single sound that one made? Tutting under her breath and whispering a few choice words, she tried once again to go back to her recipe, only this time the butler did what could be described as not only rude, but shocking to boot.

In a half assed attempt to dispose of the blood pack, he tossed it in the direction of the baker. Whilst it did not strike Bridgette, it did land on the open pages of her treasure cook book. Her porcelain features soon turned to a striking shade of pink, as she slammed both hands down on the kitchen bench at either side of the blood splattered book. By now the Carpathian butler was facing her, and to make matters worse, he was staring at her with eyes that looked to be undressing her. Bridgette’s jaw fell open as her mind raced with all manner of obscenities that when said in french may well turn the blood sucker on.

The oven timer dinged for the pastries were ready, and the girl was so flustered that she spun on her heel and frantically tried to get the trays out of the oven without burning herself. Setting out the trays on the cooling bench, she turned off the oven and spun around to pick up her ruined book. Bridgette scowled as she shook her fist at the Butler, and slamming the book together, which only made it drip on the counter, she stormed out of the kitchen before she said something she regretted.

Re: Kitchen
August 01, 2014 10:28AM
The glass was half empty by the time Bridgette had twisted around and gave him the coolest look he’d ever received. So harsh and judgmental. His golden hues fluttered downwards to the now red book that the empty plastic had landed on and an amused grin crossed his lips as she shook her fist and ran off like her hair had been set aflame.

Women.

He turned on his heel and looked at the pastries cooling down and reached over, selecting one and sniffing it, holding the glass in his other hand, before taking a nibble, ignoring the blistering heat, and nodded to himself. Well the spitfire little lady was good at baking at least, and not bad to look at.
The Carpathian reached for a second pastry when the most immeasurable pain possible tore through his head, sparking right behind his eyes and charging backwards. The shock, the pressure, of the sudden attack cause the glass to slip from his hands, shattering as it hit the tiled floor, thick blood crawling from the remains. He let out a pain filled cry, nearly sinking to his knees from the searing fire that was currently raging through his head, though his right hand reached out and pressed into the counter, keeping him upwards. Every single nerve in his body felt as if it was being held over a flame all at once. His fingers pressed into the granite, tightening a little bit more with each passing second, eventually breaking through and ripping up a good chunk of the counter, sending him to his ass.
The attack itself lasted all of five seconds but he was left breathless and a cool sweat had taken hold over his entire body, chills rolling down his spine as his eyes pressed tightly closed. The first thing to move after silence had fallen was his right hand which toyed with a bit of rock between his two fingers.
Then he opened his eyes, and promptly let free a hiss.
What had been a world of black, white, and gray, was suddenly filled with color. He’d not seen this in a century, though he had no recollection of color since his memory had been wiped clean, and he squinted. It was painful to even look at the room he was in, let alone the light pouring in from outside.
Outside?
He pushed himself to his feet as fast as he could, using the recently broken counter top to push away from, nearly slipping in the pool of thick blood, but catching himself at the last moment, stumbling like a child just learning how to walk. The Carpathian reached the window sill and his lips parted in awe.

The sky was blue.
Trees were green.
Roses were red.
But the sky…It was blue. It wasn’t just blue. It was beautiful. Clear. It was more than he could comprehend. Was the world meant to be this blindingly ravishing?

“What the Hell did she do to me?” Zero uttered under his breath wondering if this was a spell. She must be a witch. For a year and half he’d believed that the world was free of color. Was he wrong? Was this simply a hallucination?
Eyes tore away from the stunning view and towards the door that the woman had disappeared through.
“Wait!” The word came out in a deep growl as his head was now thundering from the storm that had just passed. He was running after her, using his nose to find her, and his speed to catch up with her. He’d take down the witch that caused him so much pain. Or so was the plan.
The hunt was on.

Just outside the Kitchen

Devastation. That was how Bridgette felt. Her treasured cookery book was ruined and all because of the horrid man that had spoilt what was the only highlight of her day. Holding the blooded book tight to her bodice, the blood droplets were now staining more than just the pages of her cook book, but also her brilliant white apron. Her skirts rustled against the pile of the hall carpet, as she hurried past oil paintings of the owners of this strange house. Eyes appeared to follow her movements as she hurried for the sanctuary of her room. The very idea that she could take the library cook book back now was in ruins. What if they never let her borrow another? Bridgette muttered under her breath as she was about to take the stairs, but then one of the blooded pages tore free from the inner spine and floated to the floor – a large red blotch mark covering what was some pretty lemon tarts.

“Je n’en reviens pas.” (“I can’t believe it.”) Bridgette cried, as she came to a stop and crouched down to pick up the loose and bloody page from the cook book. It was then she heard a male voice coming from the direction of the kitchen.

“Wait!” Was it the same man that had brought her such grief this morning? Bridgette looked up and sure enough, he was racing towards her at a speed that was not human. So very fast, that she was like a startled rabbit.

“Oh là là .” (“Oh dear, oh no.”)

The look on the man’s face was one of fury. Bridgette had no understanding at all. She merely shook her fist at him, yet he was running at her like she murdered someone close. Rising to her feet quickly, she fumbled with the cook book in such a way that it fell from her hands and pages flew in all directions. The book had met it’s end.

Bridgette didn’t know what was worse; seeing the book fall apart or the man running at her as though to seize her. The baker cried out as her hands became animated at the ruined book on the floor.

“Regardez ce que vous avez fait.” (“Look what you have done.”0

Re: Kitchen
August 03, 2014 01:10PM
It was like something out of a movie.
The book was airborne, juggled between fumbling hands, before it fell down and the pages showered onto the mansion’s floor. It had all happened in slow motion to the Carpathian who was basking in every detail of this new and colorful world, amazed at the detail on the pages, even the little pictures.
Zero had absolutely no idea what the girl was saying, he was too busy debating on what to do. He had paused as the book had fell, standing on the opposite end of the massacre. It was clearly something she cared about and for some reason he wanted to stop her from getting any more upset. Why was he so compelled? He hadn’t the slightest. His original plan was to just grab her and demand answers, but it was no longer what he wanted to do.
“I can’t understand a word you’re saying.” He said slowly, despite living in Spain at times he had always stuck to straight English, knowing a few scattered phrases in Latin. Raising a hand, perhaps to show he wasn’t going to jump her, at least not yet, the male knelt down and collected the papers into a pile and looked down at them. Recipes stared back up at him and he sighed slowly.
“I don’t know what you did to me.” Golden hues rose and narrowed ever so slightly. “Are you a witch? Can you even understand me?” He looked back downwards and thumbed through the pages, changing a couple so that they were in numeric order. This was his fault. There had been blame in her tone. So. Yes. He was feeling guilty, a new emotion, one he hadn’t felt in a century. One he was struggling to understand.
The Carpathian cleared his throat and closed the gap between them, grabbing the baker’s hand, and putting the thick stack of papers in her grip before withdrawing and taking a single step back.
“Cold water. Cold water gets blood out.” He wasn’t even sure he was being understood. “And…If you punch holes in the pages you could make it into a binder, or keep the pages together with yarn or something. I don’t know. Look I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to startle you…Or…Be…An asshole. I just want to know, no, I need to know, why you hurt me? Why you did this to me? Please? Is this temporary?”

Re: Kitchen

Just outside the Kitchen

Bridgette didn’t know whether to cry or shout as the hallways was now littered with the pages of the ruined cook book. She could not help but speak in her native tongue. She rarely spoke to anyone in the mansion, so this was really the first time. Bridgette knew English…barely. Enough it seemed to be able to take in what the crazy eyed man was saying, or trying to say. His whole body language changed from the rampaging Vampire, to that of a man that was clearly confused by the effect the young french maiden had on him.

“I can’t understand a word you’re saying.”

This was said slowly, as he raised a hand to demonstrate he was not about to lunge at her. Taking breathes quickly, the french maiden finally spoke English, since she could see he was not about to attack her.

“The book…a…it iz from….ze library.” She spoke in broken English, as her eyes gazed down at the many hundred of scattered pages. A book so well loved, that it finally came to rest on the hall way floor. Dead. Slowly she sank to her knees and in a vain effort tried to pick up each page, but only to hear the Vampire now say that he didn’t know what she had done to him. ~Done to him? What was he on about?~ the girl thought, every so often staring up at him as though he was mad. He then asked if she was a witch and if she could understand him.

“I amz…human…er…I am ze baker. I do…nothink…to youz.” Again with animated hands, that were clutching the odd blood splattered page. She was getting more and more confused as the Vampire rattled on. Bridgette was trying to get the pages together, but it was clearly a mammoth task. Blood stained nearly every page. This was when the Vampire took a step back and offered his advice, that cold water gets blood out.

Bridgette raised a brow. So he was saying she should wet the pages even more than they were now? That made no sense to her. She shook her head, and continued on as he spoke of perhaps punching holes into the pages, and then making the book into a binder of sorts. What part of the fact it was a library book that he didn’t understand? Bridgette let out a soft sigh as she simply let the pages slip from her hand and float back to the floor.

Again the Vampire was going on about how she had done something to him, how she had hurt him. Begging her to tell him if what ever condition he had was temporary. Bridgette slowly pushed herself to standing and then folded her arms. She was not a mind reader and she certainly had not to her knowledge harmed or hexed the man.

She took two steps towards him, over the sheets of the book and then said simply.

“Perhapz….er….ze blood…you drank…vaz….er…how you zay….tainted?” It was the only logical explanation she could come up with. The french baker shrugged, and then turned on the ball of her foot and dropped the cover of the library book on the floor. He was the butler….he could clean it all up.

Re: Kitchen

Zero listened. Or rather he tried to. He really did.
The girl before him, distraught with the abrupt destruction of the cook book, said she was human, she even offered up that he drank tainted blood, which hadn’t really dawned on the man at all as a viable option until just now. How could this human girl know more about that than he?
Either way it had gone right over his head and he watched her turning around and dropping the cover of the library book on the floor, this gathering a quick twitch of his eye as he glared at the back of her and felt the most familiar emotion of them all bubbling up inside of him, rage.
Before he could stop himself a balled fist jolted upwards and slammed into the wall of the hallway, crushing the wood like paper, the spark of energy that was exerted branched outwards and the window to the right of the crater cracked, the spiderweb like pattern branching out without hesitation, though it did not fall from the frame.
At the same time a deep, feral, growl birthed in his chest and rolled up into his throat, escaping in two words that passed through a tightly locked jaw.
“You’re lying!”
It had been practically shouted. He wasn’t even sure if he was right but for fucks sakes he just wanted a straight answer. Not a guess. Not an assumption. She’d done something. Dark magic perhaps?
“Be gone she wench! And know that your magics will only hold me for so long and there are only so many places to hide in this mansion!” Hm. Unbeknownst to him, he sounded like a rambling fool, his rant even gathering a shooing motion with his hand as he beckoned for her to be on her merry little way.

If she had left, or stormed, he’d be left in the hallway with an overbearing pressure. An emotion called regret. The butler would sigh and begin to pick up the pages of the book carefully and put them in order, with some ease, and tucked them under his arm after he gave up halfway through. After he watched the crater in the wall pop back outwards and the window sealing itself again, he’d mumble under his breath about this whole place being nothing but a trap, and then walk away to his quarters.

If she chose to stay a little while longer, and perhaps exchange some nicely placed words, he’d not plan on backing down any time soon.

Kitchen
Making his way through a different door, the vampire smoothly took a couple steps inside with one empty tray in his hand. He had been whistling some sort of melody, however the soft tunes soon came to a stop the second he entered the one room he loved the very most in this mansion. It was a mess. Also…A smell of blood was in the air. A frown went across his pale, pale, face. In a calm couple of strides, the male made his way to the nearest counter- where he placed the silver tray down whilst inhaling through his nose the scent of blood again. For the ones who knew Nathaniel, it was when he was quiet and perfectly emotionally still, was when he was angry, or rather annoyed. His eyes glowed a cold icy blue aswell as he turned to face the kitchen again. What type of childish moron could have done such harm to his precious workplace? Nathaniel exhaled, emptying his lungs. He began to fold up the sleeves on his white shirt, all the way to his elbows before he grabbed his tie aswell and angrily tugged it off around his neck so it wouldn’t get in the way. He left his black vest on, and began to work after that. Firstly he handled the blood. Ugh, he thought, sneering at the sight. What a terrible waste..
Being an undead creature that can’t feed on anything but blood, seeing something like this was sure to upset him. It reminded him to ask for more blood however from the caretaker, he himself had not fed in a few days and this one seemed to be the very last they had. Cursing faintly, he soon finished washing the floors and dumped the wet cloth into a bucket filled with what used to be clear water, but was now tinted in shades of red. With his keen sense of smell he could still catch the hint of blood in the air though, not quite concealed by the soap he used. However at this point he detected another scent, a sweeter one. Freshly baked goods, perhaps? Oh, he wasn’t wrong. That curious little French lady had been doing her little artworks again. It cheered him up as he saw them, French sweets were surely his favourite. They had charm. He do wish she would talk more, but she was so awfully shy. With a light chuckle, he gently gathered them up and placed them somewhere they wouldn’t get in the way of his cleaning, before he continued his work. However when reaching the cupboards to organize the different items, he seemed to slow down. His face had a mix of intense focus and slight irritation as he got stuck trying to perfectly place everything. He hesitatingly lifted his hand, but eventually slid the final cup into place after a while of puzzling about. The colors, shapes, sizes, everything had to be perfectly placed together or else he’d go crazy thinking about it. Deeply sighing, he shut the cabinet doors at last. The kitchen looked somewhat alright again, but it wasn’t finished just yet, it needed to look…Well, to his standards, which were rather high especially when it came to the god damn kitchen.

Re: Kitchen

Just outside the Kitchen

The young french maiden had more or less kept to herself since she arrived at the Mansion with no clue to as to how she came to be there, or even why. Her previous life was nothing but a mystery, but she knew her name and the fact that she was just an ordinary french girl caught up in a house with some of the strangest and most peculiar people you could ever imagine. It was for this reason that she had kept to herself. Fear. She was nothing special, in her mind. A human with no talents save the ability to bake. Perhaps that was what she did in her past life. She simply didn’t know, but it came perfectly natural to her. It was a day when she found the library that she happened upon the cook book. It was as though the fancy french swirling lettering and the delightful cover beckoned her to read it. From that moment on, she treasured the cook book, because it was the only thing in the entire house that made her feel…something. It helped give her a chance to carry out a duty within the house, and to do it when most others were either asleep or haunting the grounds.

Now the book was in ruins, and to make matters worse that man that had caused this was going off his brain in a rant that had her stop dead in her tracks. Screaming that she lied. She lied about who she was. If she were a witch, like he claimed, oh…she WOULD put a hex on him for his ill manner and maybe even whip up a spell to seal his lips shut. But Bridgette could do nothing like that.

As she turned back to meet his gaze, he had changed his tune, and was waving her away. Shooing her as he wanted nothing to do with her now. Like dirt that you would find caked to your shoe. An annoyance. He had even punched the wall and sent a virtual shock wave through the wall, creating a large series of cracks in the windows.

From that moment, she truly believed he was dangerous. Dangerous to her, and to anyone he came into contact with. His rage was almost like he was blinded to the very truth of the situation. He said there was nowhere to hide in the mansion, and he had a point about that. Bridgette was ready to turn tail and run. Her heart pounding for all it was worth. How dare he threaten her? How dare he call her a liar. Both hands of the young maiden curled into fists, and this was when the shy french baker suddenly saw red. HOW DARE HE?

She marched right up to him as he held but the cover of the book and a few token pages. With a furious look, she was no longer going to be some little door mouse for others to disrespect. And with that, she twisted her waist ever slightly, and went to slap him across the face with her right hand, the intended strike to hit his left cheek.

When the frail little French girl marched on up to him, Zero Savage expected to be on the other end of a few choice words, all spewed in a language he couldn’t understand of course. So he paid no mind as the gap between them closed, his hands fumbling with the cover of the book.

However, her dainty hand rocketed towards his cheek left. There were many options for him, but he decided not to move as her hand connected with his face, causing the man’s head to shift ever so slightly to the side. The sting from the hit was not physical. No. It was mental. He’d pushed a woman to raising her hand against him. Perhaps he was going about this whole thing wrong. While the darkness in him wanted nothing more than to drag her off, there was a little voice, an angel perched on his shoulder, preaching about being kind and not hitting her back. Equality was a bitch, said the devil on his other shoulder.
The cover in his hands creaked in the seconds that followed, as his grip tightened and broke through the material. Then, only after the book’s cover was discarded to the mess on the floor, did he move.
Assuming she didn’t move, or didn’t have some crazy dangerous weapon hidden away to use against him, the man’s heightened speed would snap into effect as he went to grab her hand, that had just passed by his face, and wrapped his fingers around her entire palm, side tracked by how small her hand was. But that only made him more annoyed. SHE was the dangerous one here. SHE had cursed him. SHE made him feel off and not his usual darker self. The way he liked it.
The Carpathian would rip the woman towards him forcefully. All his might. Closer. Closer. In the end her hand would be held above their heads, slightly over his own shoulder to get the angle correct and he’d touch his cheek with his free hand. He didn’t expect her to go down without a fight or some well placed hits, but it’d not bother him as he lowered his head and leveled his eyes with her’s. Honey colored hues glistened with power, glowing gently, almost pulsing with life, as he thought of what to say, his ironclad grip unwavering.

“That wasn’t very smart.” He whispered through a clenched jaw. Yes Zero. The way to a woman’s heart was definitely to question her intelligence. “And here I was going to let you get a head start…A couple days.” A chuckle as his thoughts wandered. “Are you always this temperamental or am I just a special case?”
He’d take his time.
He’d enjoy every squirm. Every flare of anger. Every hit she tried to dish. But he’d not be letting her go. Not any time soon.

Just outside the Kitchen

Caught in the vice like grip of Zero’s hand, Bridgette was like a fish on a hook – twisting and pulling; trying to free herself from his hold. Was she crazy to even think to slap his face? He had insulted her and for that it was a crime that deserved punishment. A lady had the right to hold her ground, even in the face of being attacked further. Gritting her teeth with her lips practically a thin line, Bridgette made a terrible growling sound. Zero was hurting her now with his increasing pressure on her skin. Held aloft like some prize and now made to suffer further indignity.

Bridgette watched as he caressed the mark where her hand made contact on his skin. She got her point across, that was for sure. But was he about to release her?

“That wasn’t very smart.”

No, it wasn’t but Bridgette was not about to let him see that she knew it. Defiance shone in her eyes. He teased her without mercy, that he was going to give her a head start, a chance to hide. This was a game to him, obviously. Nothing more.

“Are you always this temperamental or am I just a special case?”

Now he was questioning her sanity? Oh, that was the last straw. She couldn’t run…she couldn’t fight against his strength. The only thing she could do….was use what God had given her.

“Doez….your breathez…always zmellz….like de….’orsesz…azz?” She gave back with her broken English. Cruel taunts were all she could think of.

Isabella’s Kitchen

With Jason now clean and coming down to make amends with Isabella, he would find her in the kitchen helping herself to a chalice of wine – straight from the fridge. She was holding the goblet and swirling it around as he came up behind her. The Vampire Queen stiffened some and raised her right shoulder up slightly as he spoke to her.

“Still hungry dearest?”

His lips graced her neck before he pulled back and massaged her shoulders. Isabella brought the chalice to her darkened lips, sipping from it as she replied in a delicate voice.

https://i2.wp.com/31.media.tumblr.com/a027ecf5d07b5e9c2d6274c87c71a692/tumblr_mjb7gl02fR1rb8y4eo1_500.gif

“I’m always hungry….Jason.”

At this she finished off the goblet, placing it down on the bench and turning to face him with small trickles of blood running down her chin. Her temper had cooled somewhat and she was just about to say something incredibly sexy when…

Two of her charges entered the room, all taking off their hats and caps in the presence of Isabella and her mate.

“Queen….there is word that the blonde one has been staking out (hur hur) the old estate of Vincent Casales.”

One of the others stepped forward and bowed low before her.

“They found the safe.”

Isabella quirked a brow, having forgotten all about Vincent and his love of antiquities. She seemed to be nonchalant about the whole thing, but little did she know what danger this would bring. “So…what has that got to do with me?” Two of the sired ones stared at each other, and then one said above a whisper.

“He….he is coming.”

Isabella was starting to get annoyed. “Who is coming? Shane? He thinks I’m dead…well, again, you know.”

She waved her hand dismissively but the other sire had a look of terror on his face. “Not…Shane. HIM.” He then pointed to a large picture in the dining room…..of Count Vlad Tepes. Why would Isabella keep a framed portrait of Vlad in her house you might ask? Oh…she had been a bad girl.

Isabella fell back and knocked the chalice off the table. Her chest heaved and she started to panic.

“No….that’s not true….THAT’S IMPOSSIBLE!” Her head turned towards the image of Vlad in her house, and right then and there she wanted to rip it from the wall and scream. She clutched the necklace around her neck and fled the room.

While Vlad was plotting his next movie and Isabella was having her freakout moment, Carmen and Mary were headed back to Shane’s, talking and laughing like nothing had changed.

Shane’s Mansion

Carmen and Mary were laughing up a storm as they entered the house. Hearing it, Misty came strolling out of the kitchen, a bowl of ice cream in her hands. When she saw Mary, the bowl slipped though nerveless fingers and smashed to the floor, catching both women’s attention. Carmen looked at the melting ice cream then at Misty.

“You better clean that up before Shane sees it.” Carmen stated as she set her bag and keys on the table.

Misty was staring at Mary in stunned shock. The dish smashing to the floor brought others running and they all froze upon seeing Mary.

“What the fuck?!” Dyna exclaimed.

“Carmen?” Booker wondered, shocked to see a dead woman standing next to his friend.

“Um…surprise?” Carmen grinned. Booker drew his gun and pointed it at Mary.

“Who the fuck are you?”

“Booker, put it away.” Carmen glared.

“No! This is some kind of sick…joke! Mary’s dead!”

“I know that, you moron.” Mary snorted. “You can thank your little buddy, Vincent for my current state.”

That made everyone within hearing distance gape in shock.

“What?” Dyna was the first to ask.

Mary repeated her story for the others to hear; about how Vincent had turned her before leaving her to be found and buried and his plans to lure Carmen to his side. “I was never so happy to hear that Carmen offed that baby murdering bastard.” Mary grinned.

Carmen looked around. “Where’s that husband of mine? He’s going to want to know about this.”

“He left a little while ago. Nobody knows where.” Misty explained.

With a sigh, Carmen tapped into her husband’s thoughts. «”Darling, where are you? I’m home and I’ve brought a guest.”»

Shane’s Mansion

Shane was not all that far from the manor when he felt his Carmen tap into his thoughts.«”Darling, where are you? I’m home and I’ve brought a guest.”»

A guest? Shane glanced down at the passenger seat beside him where the scroll and stained wooden box rested. The vampire frowned momentarily before channeling a thought back. “Won’t be long, just finishing up some business. That was one way of putting it. He knew that he wouldn’t have enough time to go to the museum this night and get the curator to give him insight into the scroll, so he would have to take the Egyptian treasures back to the house and put somewhere safe for the time being. The car tore along the road at speed with dirt and leaf litter spiraling behind it as he raced for home.

On parking the car in the underground garage, he took up the scroll and the wooden box, stuffing them both inside his coat before exiting the car and slamming the door. Shane pressed the lock on his key, then made his way up to the house. All the lights were on, and he knew then that Carmen was definitely entertaining someone.

Now normally he would head straight to the kitchen on entering, but instead he used his vampire speed to get into his den and find his own safe behind a painting of Carmen. Working the combination, he opened the safe and placed the Egyptian scroll and blooded box inside. Pleased that at least for now, both were safe, he closed the safe door and spun the dial. The picture was set back in place and Shane stepped back, to gaze at Carmen’s likeness in the picture. A crooked smile came to his lips, and he strolled out of his den whistling, only to be shocked when he turned the corner and saw Mary. Looking..well, alive.

Shane rubbed his eyes for a moment then looked again. It was definitely Mary.

“Doesn’t anybody in this town….ever really die?”

Yep, he was stunned.

Isabella’s Mansion

Jason looked at the two charges with a raised brow before sighing and taking off after Isabella. He had no clue what was going on or of her past but by the flames of hell he was going to find out. It wasn’t long before he had found her in their bedchambers and he walked up to her slowly. As he walked over to his beloved Isabella he would speak with a soft flowing voice aimed to calm her down. “Dearest who scares you so….and would you mind telling me of your past?” He then sat down beside her and slowly looped an arm around her wait to pull her against his chest in a comforting manner. As he did so he would remain silent and watch her carefully and protectively. If anything Jason was highly protective of the ones he held dear and that was Isabella and he would die for her at a moments notice.

Shane’s House – Family Room

Shane strolled into the room, whistling a jaunty tune but stopped dead (hardy har har) in his tracks when he saw Mary. He rubbed his eyes in disbelief.

“Doesn’t anybody in this town….ever really die?” he quipped. Carmen walked to his side, a large smile on her face.

https://i2.wp.com/stream1.gifsoup.com/view3/1168222/mariska-hargitay-o.gif

“If they did, then life would be boring, now wouldn’t it?” she stated, kissing his cheek. She drew back and looked at him, cocking her head to the side. There was something different about him. “What’s wrong, baby?” she murmured so that he was the only one to hear.

It wasn’t very often Shane let things bother him, and this one looked like it had his brain wheel grinding in overtime.

“Guys at work giving you grief?”

Shane’s House – Family Room

Shane rubbed his chin as he was still staring at the new look Mary. Carmen appeared happy that her secretary and friend was back from the dead, and so he couldn’t decide if he should say out loud what he had been up too. Course, with Carmen she knew when something wasn’t quite right with her mate and approached him with a question as to whether it was work that had him troubled. Breaking his concentration he paused before putting his arm around Carmen and steering her out of the family room.

“Sorry folks, need to borrow the Missus.”

All those that had been gathered hopefully would understand, and Misty piped up and said.“Get ready for the sound of breaking bed springs.” A few others laughed and Shane threw out a comment as he and Carmen left the room. “I will break something, but it won’t be our bed.” At this Misty shut up and chewed her bottom lip.

Arriving in the den, Shane invited his wife in and closed the door. He stood silently for a moment, wondering how to proceed with this. He flicked his tongue to the inside of the right side of his cheek and then decided to come out with it.

“So…you remember the night where we came to save you from Vincent. Well, I haven’t been totally keeping you in the loop. I had a hunch about something Vincent was keeping on that property, something of significance that….could have changed everything for us….and you.”

Now it would seem like he was dancing around the subject, and then he continued.

“I’ve actually just come back from the ruins….with a find. One of my investigators found a safe behind Isabella’s painting.”

He went to his own safe and then unlocked it, before pulling out the ancient Egyptian scroll and the blooded box. Shane set them down on his desk in front of Carmen and then leaned on the desk, folding his arms.

https://i2.wp.com/media.giphy.com/media/5SSDM9eIqM0i4/giphy.gif

“I’ve yet to determine what this is…as I don’t read hieroglyphics, but whatever it is its got something to do with…our kind.”

Shane stood and waited for her reaction.

Shane’s Den

There was definitely something on his mind. He took her around the waist and led her from the room, pretty much ignoring Misty’s comment with the threat of bodily harm. Carmen had a thought of sitting her and Bianca down and having a chat with those two about the comments about her and Shane’s sex life. It was none of their business and it was seriously pissing her off.

He lead her to the den and closed the door behind them for privacy. She was deeply intrigued now. He was silent for a moment and she wasn’t going to press him. She’d learned long before that it was best to let him gather his thoughts before he spoke. He looked at her, tongue-in-cheek, before he began to speak.

“So…you remember the night where we came to save you from Vincent. Well, I haven’t been totally keeping you in the loop. I had a hunch about something Vincent was keeping on that property, something of significance that….could have changed everything for us….and you.” He moved over to his personal safe and drew out a rolled up parchment and a box. He set both items on the desk.

“I thought everything was burnt in the fire? Wasn’t David in charge of that?” Carmen was confused. What could have possibly survived the raging inferno that Vincent’s mansion came to be?

“I’ve actually just come back from the ruins….with a find. One of my investigators found a safe behind Isabella’s painting.”

There was that name again…she’d heard it before. Isabella. Who was she? Before she could ask, Shane continued his explanation.

“I’ve yet to determine what this is…as I don’t read hieroglyphics, but whatever it is its got something to do with…our kind.” He had unrolled the scroll, spanning the length of the desk. She studied the symbols but couldn’t make heads or tails of the writing either. She shook her head. She needed answers.

“Forgetting all this for a minute…who exactly is Isabella to you? Twice now I’ve heard her name, from you and from Dyna. David mentioned the woman to Dyna after that fiasco out in the woods and Dyna came to me about it. I brushed it off at the time because I didn’t care about your past. But now…with this…it seems that your past is once again going to affect our future. Who is she, Shane? I think you owe me an explanation.” Carmen crossed her arms and waited.

Shane’s Den

Who was Isabella? How much Shane had hoped to avoid this conversation. Reaching up he raked his fingers through his golden locks and then brought his arm down to place a hand on the desk behind him. “I thought the past was the past, Carmen.” His words holding a certain amount of annoyance, but it was not due to her questions, rather the subject. His electric blue eyes then glanced at the chess set, then back at her.

“Long ago…there was a Queen. Her name was Isabella. Said to be one of Dracula’s favored…or something. She was brought to this country by Vincent.”

Now this was surely to add to Carmen’s curiosity. He strummed the blooded box absently as he continued.

“A beauty like no other. But what is beautiful on the outside has a very dark interior – rotten maggot filled. A woman with no heart. A woman who was used to getting….what she wanted.” Shane pushed himself away from the desk, and strolled over to the chess board, where all the pieces were in their starting positions. He reached out and picked up the black Queen off the board and held it….almost like he was studying it. Little did Carmen realize the significance.

“I was a simple lawyer back then. Had a wife…family…children. One night I stopped in at the local bar for a drink after work. That was the night I met her.” You could see the shadow that was coming over his face, as the darkness in his thoughts descended. It was almost eerie to watch. “I’d been working on four cases and barely had time for my own family. Work was just running me into the ground. You could say I was suffering burnout. Turns out I was ripe…for someone like her. Next thing I knew…she was fucking me in her car.”

This probably would have turned Carmen cold, but there was more to the story. “It was the first time she fed on me. But she didn’t kill me. The next day….I find a brand new car in my driveway. After that, she kept turning up at my office….at the bar…anywhere and everywhere…wanting more…and more. I refused. She wanted me to leave my family.”

At this he set down the black Queen on the chess board and turned to look at Carmen with a hollowed expression.

“She refused to take no for an answer….and massacred my family.”

That was the turning point in what he was saying as his mouth felt dry. What she did was unforgivable. Shane sought out a way to get revenge, but in doing so…became everything he hated.

https://i0.wp.com/media.giphy.com/media/ZW6A8vaWxeZQk/giphy.gif

“Hate…makes you do terrible things. When I discovered where she was kept, I took a stake and I destroyed her where she lay.”

At least…he thought he did.

Shane’s Den

Apparently this subject was a tricky one as Shane took on an annoyed air. Carmen glared at him, her stance letting him know she was unaffected by his annoyance as she used to be. She wanted an explanation and she wasn’t satying another word until she got one.

And so he told her about Isabella, the vampire who turned him and destroyed his family in the process.

“Hate…makes you do terrible things. When I discovered where she was kept, I took a stake and I destroyed her where she lay.”

Well that was an eye opener. She was about to let him off the hook when another name caught her attention.

“Wait a minute? Did you say ‘Dracula’?” she gaped. Before he could ask her what she meant, she went around his desk and started digging through the trashcan. It was sure to peak Shane’s own curiosity and before he could say so, she found an old newspaper and slapped it open.

MYSTERIOUS NEAR-FATAL TRAIN WRECK IN LOWER MANHATTAN

Read one headline. There was a second, smaller story off to the side.

MYSTERIOUS DEATHS AT SUBWAY STATION CONTROL BOOTH

This one came with a photo…a video still of a crate with the name ‘Tepes’ clearly visible on the side. She looked at Shane.

“Is that who I think it is?” she asked, a small trace of worry in her voice. “If he’s alive…I have to wonder…if Isabella might be alive too.” Her eyes were wide as she stared at her husband. “But that’s not possible…is it?”

Suddenly, berating Misty and Bianca was the least of her worries.

Shane’s Den

“SHE’S DEAD, CARMEN!”

Now, it was totally out of character to see Shane explode like that…well lately, but the truth was he had been afraid of this. Maybe in his outburst he was trying to convince himself she was dead, and that the news of the arrival of the crate marked Tepes was pure coincidence. Shane’s face contorted to that of his vampire likeness and he grit his teeth in anger.

“You knew about the train….about the box?’ Now he acted like she was keeping things from him and not the other way around. “Goddamn it.”

So much for keeping his investigations on the quiet. He was onto something and little did he realize that he held part of the reason that Vlad was coming to America. To take back what Isabella had stolen. Isabella wore around her neck the charmed key…the same key to open the box that was on Shane’s desk. Trouble was coming….and they had no idea how bad things were going to get.

It took a great deal of restraint to stop himself from going into full vampire and it was clear he was losing the battle.

“All I know….is that this…” he held up the scroll and showed it to Carmen. “Will go to answering a lot of questions, but we need to take it to an expert. I am thinking the local museum.” Shane placed the scroll back on the table, and then folded his arms again.

“I have been working on this for well over a week now, Carmen. The moment I heard about the mystery in New York. Whatever he is here after….I want to find it first.”

Shane’s Den

“SHE’S DEAD, CARMEN!” Shane yelled, making her jump. She pressed a hand to her chest as she watched his form ripple as he struggled to control himself.

“You knew about the train….about the box?”

His tone of voice suggested she had been keeping secrets from him now, but that was far from the truth.

https://i0.wp.com/i.perezhilton.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/tumblr_misndozsnp1r3ifxzo1_500.gif

“I wasn’t keeping it from you, if that’s what you’re thinking, Shane Williamson. Get that out of your head right now.” she glared. “I only remembered that news article because of the crate. It’s not often you see the name ‘Tepes’ and I’ve lived a very long fucking time to pick up a few things about the history of this world.”

He seemed to sigh. “Goddamn it.” he muttered. She stepped up to him, placing her hands on his cheeks so that he would be forced to look at her.

“I have been honest with you since the moment you claimed me as your own. Please don’t doubt me now.” she begged.

“All I know….is that this…” he picked up the scroll again, “Will go to answering a lot of questions, but we need to take it to an expert. I am thinking the local museum.”

“I want to go with you, when you do. I think I have the right.”

“I have been working on this for well over a week now, Carmen. The moment I heard about the mystery in New York. Whatever he is here after….I want to find it first.”

“We’re in this together, love. For better, for worse, until death. I won’t let you do this alone. You’re going to have to tie me to the bed and chain me to a wall to keep me from going.”

She smirked then, taking the sting out of her words as her mind traveled back to the very first night she woke up in his home.

Shane’s den

Shane had an investigator he could call at a moment’s notice to do the daylight investigations, but with Carmen now insisting that she be a part of his plans he found himself at odds if she should go. At first he started coming up with excuses.

“Mary….she just got here and you want to come off on a night at the Museum. Don’t you think she will be a bit put out. Not very hospitable of you.” he held up a finger and wiggled it, showing that side of him that she would remember from when they first met. Turning around he went over to his small closet and took off his jacket, replacing it with a long black leather coat. he also started to load up on weapons as he had his back to Carmen.

“And….don’t tempt me to tie you up. I have done it before and you know what that leads too. Personally, I think you love it.”

He was really trying to steer her clear of all this. What if Isabella was alive? What if he was wrong about all this? As usual, Shane was trying to protect her, but in reality she was stronger than she looked. When he turned around, he looked more dashing than ever. Twirling a flashlight he hooked it to his belt.

https://i1.wp.com/media.giphy.com/media/10r2n0I1T6C2uA/giphy.gif

Shane strolled over and picked up the blooded box and the scroll. He moved to plant a kiss on her forehead as though he was ready to say goodnight.

“Don’t wait up.”

He then, tried to walk past her.

The Museum of antiquities

https://i2.wp.com/tavistocktutors.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/Night-at-the-Museum.hdwarez.com_.4.jpg

A light snoring sound came from the information desk inside the museum, while in one of the back offices, a young Archaeologist was studying some books with the light on at her desk. The museum was often a rather creepy place at night, where the statues were so ominous in the light of the shadows. Miss Reece was studying some ancient writings which of course….were Egyptian – her major in college. Taking off her glasses, she rubbed her eyes before picking up her tea cup, only to realize it was empty.

https://i1.wp.com/24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lxnx076AKn1qco1fbo1_r4_500.gif

“Darn…now I have to go to the staff room. The tea’s shit.”

Pushing herself up out of her chair, she left her office and headed down to the back of the museum near the loading area.

“Mary can keep the others company and is more then capable of keeping them in line. I’m going with you whether you like it or not.” she scowled.

He moved to the closet in the corner and switched his jacket for a long trench, pulling out a gun and a flashlight as well. He turned back toward her, a grin on his devilish face.

“And….don’t tempt me to tie you up. I have done it before and you know what that leads too. Personally, I think you love it.”

He walked up to her and planted a kiss on her head. “Don’t wait up.”

Faster then lightning, she was blocking his way to the door, the glare on her face so hot, it was a wonder his clothing didn’t catch fire.

“Let me make something clear, my darling husband. You walk out this door tonight without me by your side, then it’s over between us.” Oh she was not going down without a fight. She had thrown down the gauntlet and was challenging him in the most spectacular way. “Now I may be your mate, but I am also your Queen and I have every right to be at your side while you go off on some hairbrained adventure like you were some kind of…Indiana Jones character.” For each word she spoke, she was poking him in the chest and pushing him back toward the desk until he fetched up the side of it. She pressed her chest against his, and flashed her fangs in anger. “Get this through your thick skull…I’m going with you, whether you like it or not.”

One thing Shane seemed to forget was that Carmen WAS his Queen. And hell hath no fury like a wife being told to stay home and not wait up. The look she gave him would have melted the faces off the Nazi’s that opened the Arc of the Covenant.

“Uh oh.” He murmured as she used the power of her pinky to basically push him all the way back to the desk, where his ass collided with the edge bringing him to a stop. Reminded him of that scene from the Incredibles when the wife had hidden the Super hero’s suit.

“I AM YOUR WIFE!” Yeah, that was the line.

Sighing, Shane took off his dark shades and then caved.

“Can you at least put on something sexy…like a black cat suit with one of those…masks?”

Anyone would think he wanted her to dress as Cat woman. If she was going to come, he wanted something to stare at. He gave her a sheepish smile.

“Please?”

Shane never could deny Carmen when she got into one of those moods. He gave up with a sigh, and a request.

“Can you at least put on something sexy…like a black cat suit with one of those…masks?”

At that, she laughed. She wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him deeply before drawing back.

“For you, of course. I happen to have this tight leather one piece outfit that I’ve never worn, hidden in the back of the closet. I can put them on…just for you.” She turned away from him with a wink and went to go change her clothes.

In no time at all, she had returned, wearing something that should have been made illegal in all 50 states.

Shane’s Den

When Carmen came back into the den, Shane almost swallowed his tongue. Carmen looked…like she stepped out of a Dom’s R US magazine. So much for a serious investigation. He was having a hard time controlling himself and had to rub his crotch.

“That’s better” Shane said with a higher pitch voice. “Let’s go.”

Leading Carmen outside the house, he hoped to avoid the likes of David and Jarvis cause if they saw her like that he might be facing competition. They went down to the garage and he picked out a black saloon, opening the door for Carmen, before getting in himself. She would have looked better on a motorcycle, but he wanted them to take the one vehicle. With Carmen inside he went round to the driver’s side and got in.

Starting up the car, he glanced over at her ample bosom that was on display with her zip lowered. “How I am going to keep my hands off you and concentrate…I don’t know.” Shane then started the car with a shake of his head, and they tore off out of the garage, on their way to the Museum.

Miss Reece was making her way back from the staff room when the night guard ambled past, stopping to flash his big torch in her face. “I.D. please?” Candy stopped dead and looked at him as though he was the dumbest man on the planet. She held up her security tag and waved it at him.

“It’s me, Candy Reece. I …work here.”

https://i2.wp.com/media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lxuczqlCbh1r3p2ec.gif

The night guard peered at her tag and muttered. “Likely story.” He really was something. Candy then took out her driver’s liscense and showed him that. “See…Candy…Reece. I WORK HERE!” Her voice was raising, as her temper was growing. The guard finally accepted it. “You need to be careful Miss. This is a dangerous place at night.”

Candy raised an eyebrow.

“What are you talking about?”

“The….Egyptian exhibit. It’s alive.”

Candy was sure he had been smoking something and patted his shoulder.

“And I am Cleopatra. Good night, Stan.”

That said, she wandered back towards her office. However, in the Egyptian exhibition…..something was lurking about.

Arriving back from seeing Elena, Caroline opened the door to her family home half wondering if her mom Liz was finished her shift. Walking through the hallway, she entered the kitchen only to see a note on the table. Reaching for it after setting down her leather bag, Caroline read that her mom was doing a split shift. It seemed to be the norm of late, and Caroline was not all that surprised.

Going back over her talk with Elena, Caroline realized she really didn’t find out all that much about Damon, and what he was doing there. Course, it was none of her business to pry, but there was clearly a lot more going on than the Blonde was ever going to find out. Glancing at the clock, she saw the time, and realized she would be meeting with Elena later at the Mystic Grill. A chance for another chat? Possibly.

Caroline snatched up her bag, and headed upstairs to shower and change.

Damon parked the car in front of Caroline’s house, and after checking there was no one around, got out the car and used the vampire speed to walk up to the main door.
He knocked a few times, knowing she was there.

“C’mon, Caroline..” He wanted to arrive at the Mikaelson’s manor as soon as possible, before Stefan or rather, Katherine.. could screw everything up again. And he was literally running out of time now.

“Thanks goodness..” Damon sighed in relief when Caroline opened the door “Haven’t you read it on twitter already?” he asked ironically as he walked in, before she could invite him.

“Apparently, Katherine was dying and my brother, who is always a gentleman, ran into your boyfriend’s arms, you know … the crazy original hybrid, and let’s say he made a deal with him.. so now I have to save Stefan’s ass, and I need you to keep Elena entertained meanwhile. And I’m running out of time so I really hope you have a lot of things to tell each other” he grabbed her arm, dragging her outside with him.

Caroline hadn’t even looked at her laptop, since she had been in the shower and then spent ages figuring out what to wear. The look on Damon’s face was one of panic. Now, that in itself was unusual, even more so than being on her front doorstep. The Salvatore elder walked in past her before she could even invite him in.

“Hey…you can’t just do that…Oi!

She chased after him as he rounded on her and then let her know exactly what was going on.

“Apparently, Katherine was dying and my brother, who is always a gentleman, ran into your boyfriend’s arms, you know … the crazy original hybrid.”

Caroline’s reaction was straight up confusion.

“Katherine’s dying?! What? I thought she….” Then it got worse as Damon explained about Stefan running into the comfort of her /boyfriend’s/ arms. “You mean Klaus? What has he got to do with this? WHY AM I ALWAYS THE LAST ONE TO KNOW THESE THINGS?!” Caroline looked like she was about to have a meltdown, when she felt the pull on her arm by Damon. so now I have to save Stefan’s ass, and I need you to keep Elena entertained meanwhile. And I’m running out of time so I really hope you have a lot of things to tell each other”

“You’re always in such a rush.”

Caroline’s car pulled up in the driveway after dropping Elena back at the Salvatore Boarding house. Knowing that her friend had enough blood stock to keep her going, meant at least she knew she was not in any immediate danger. Shutting off the engine, she sat in the car a moment – gathering her thoughts of all she had seen and heard that night. For one, Katherine appeared fine. Lexi was back, what a shock. Stefan had turned into the ripper again and then suddenly decided to restock the fridge.

Could it get any more bizarre? And where did Klaus fit into all this? Come to think of it, where was Klaus?

Sighing, Caroline got out of her car and then pressed the key lock before heading back inside her home.

Opening the front door, she sung out the ever cheery; “I’m home….again.”

And again, there was no answer. No messages, no nothing from her mother. Sometimes, Caroline felt like she truly lived alone. The young blonde set down her purse at the front entry table, and checked herself in the mirror, before making her way into the kitchen.

The one thing she had forgotten to do tonight…was eat.

Caroline’s Ford Fiesta had pulled into the driveway, and as it had it was at this point that Klaus decided to make his appearance known to her, at least from a far; for now. He viewed her every move with precise detail and narrowed it down to the way she got out of the car and turned the knob. He shook his head and moved forward by the time she began shutting the door. And it was then he had to wonder why he wasn’t back in New Orleans killing some defenseless vampire or compelling some poor soul to do his bidding when he asked. Klaus closed his eyes and moved from his place against the post before moving to push the door open as much he could, his eyes coming in view of Caroline.

Her figure was splendidly petite in her tank t-shirt and denim jacket. He held back a laugh as she began turn and make her way into the kitchen, her hands moving to fumble over the refrigerator’s door. He finally moved inside and silently stepped forward through the foyer and to the left before moving to stand in the kitchens entryway.

”I heard you were hungry…” He had said with a rather wider smile than he’d intended to give. He curved it to a grin and lifted his sleeve, made a gesture to her that clearly inclined for her to take a bite. ”Don’t worry, love. I won’t bite…” He laughed internally and kept his gaze fixated on her before shifting his leaning position and waited for her response.

Forbes Home/Kitchen

The night had been a long tired and eventful experience. One that she had been there for Elena, done as Damon asked, and then was left to go home and take care of her own needs. But in her haste she forgot that she only had one blood bag left in the refrigerator and it would barely be enough.

Making her way into the kitchen, she could already feel the pain in her gums – that raw swelling and if she had any mind to, she would have used her speed to get her to the fridge faster. A touch light headed, she went past the breakfast bar, her hand dragging along the surface, till she reached the fridge door and pried it open. Stocked with the normal foods one would expect to see, right in back was the crimson hue of a blood bag, well hidden. Caroline started to smile as she reached inside the fridge and started to take it out. The cool of the plastic feeling so good against her finger tips. She was about to shut the fridge door, when she heard a voice that was distinctive in behind her.

”I heard you were hungry…”

The shock had her spin around so fast that the blood bag slipped from her fingers and exploded on the floor at her feet. The splatter went up her legs and was now oozing under the fridge. She let out a sharp cry only to see Klaus lighting his sleeve as though motioning for her to bite him. How wicked was he? Scaring her and then causing her to lose the last of her blood stock, before presenting his arm to her in a kind gesture that included a line that he wouldn’t bite.

“Klaus…you scared me. Damn…I was just…”

He would be able to sense her wave of frustration, hunger and slight panic to see him there. Caroline stepped over the blood spill, wringing her hands at the mess, but also the loss of her blood. Would he take advantage of her plight?

Caroline had spun around so fast he thought she might fall. Especially with the trouble he’d witnessed her have just getting into the kitchen itself. And then it happened, it was sudden, but it was fast. The one thing she’d been craving had dropped from her dainty hands.

The blood bag slipped from her hands and cascaded down onto the floor, splattering the kitchen fridge and drawers with its crimson shading. At the Klaus could only laugh. His arm shifting upwards to meet his right nipple before his hand lifted in unison and cuffed his chin, index finger now caressing his lip while he laughed at her.

”Klaus… you scared me. Damn… I was just…” She began explaining, clearly terrified of his presence. As usual. He kept his smile and eyes fixated on her and he couldn’t help but smile wider at this new found information.

”I’m sorry, love. I only meant to help.” Klaus was many things, but when it came to keeping his words to things and people that meant something to him, he was no joker in the matter. He could sense her frustration, panic, loss and thirst for blood. But he also felt the want. The want for the blood she’d do anything for it. And with this thought in mind Klaus stepped forward, crossed one arm over the other and stood face to face with her, his eyes nearly undressing her as he spoke again. [/b]”Now, what are we to do about this mess.”[/b] He smiled again before continuing.

[/b]” You are far more classier a woman than some strumpet who’d lick the blood off the floor. And after your near end run off into the kitchen, I highly doubt you want to make a run all the way to the hospital to wring a soul dry. So I ask, what other options do you have here, love?” He eyed her and waited for her response before moving to the sink and grabbing a damp cloth, hand outstretched as he handed it to her. ”Here.” He handed it to her with his outstretched hand, his jacket sleeve still pulled up with his skin clearly showing, almost waiting for her to sink her precious teeth into. Whatever the choice, she had to choose soon. For he was ready, but was she?

The kitchen was a right mess, and to top it off the smell of the spilt blood was only making things worse for her. Caroline was desperate, but not so much that she would do something like lick the blood off the floor. Her eyes darted around from the floor to Klaus and then to the fridge. There was no more, and here was Klaus, more than eager to oblige her if she so dare. The hybrid tried to sugar coat the words that he was only trying to help but if anything he was the one that startled her to drop the blood bag in the first place. Perfect timing perhaps? Caroline’s face was etched with lines of worry and confusion. He always caught her when she least expected it. Denying herself from her true feelings due to all that she knew of Klaus. Caroline was more than aware of how the Salvatore and others viewed him. Now caught in this web of hunger and panic, she struggled to know how to deal with Klaus – gentle words and all.

”Now, what are we to do about this mess.”

“I have to clean it up…I can’t leave the kitchen like this.” But of course, she was growing weaker, and soon would be no use to anyone. Klaus acknowledged the fact that she had already been to the hospital, so he was well aware of her movements that night. How he did was a mystery. Caroline’s breathing became more erratic, as Klaus seemed to be circling her, tempting her to take what he was offering freely. She was fast out of options.

”Here.” Klaus offered his cleaned hand to her, and with his jacket pulled up – the shirt sleeve out of the way he was more than ready for her to sink her growing fangs into him. Caroline knew what this meant to drink from him. The risks….so great. Caroline teetered back and forth on her feet, her eyes slowly closing as though about to faint, but then….

…..her eyes flashed open with a shining red iris and she gripped his hand before she could stop herself. Deep – her fangs descended into his flesh and the sweet sound of her sucking his blood could be heard above the din of silence that the kitchen offered.

Caroline….surrendered to Klaus…then and there.

In the amount of minutes it had taken her to answer, he was watching her movements, the rise and fall of her chest. And the sudden turns of her head from the fridge, the cabinets and him. Not directly in that order. He always did have impeccable timing when it came to Caroline. Her face now etched with worry lines about her forehead, and a face that simply screamed. “Help. I’m so lost right now.” He scrunched his face up at the situation before following her gaze and then shifting to help her clean up the blood, knowing full well just the smell of it was making her crave for a killing.

All in all though, he could all but wonder what his brother would think of him now. That was until Caroline finally spoke in response to him asking about the mess. “I have to clean it up…I can’t leave the kitchen like this.” He chuckled at this and continued cleaning the mess before falling to look at her again. She was indeed a sight for sore eyes at this moment. How it pained him to see her like this. But he’d done what he could for her. Irregardless of what was said of him, when it came to Caroline he wasn’t about to force himself upon her.

”Now love, think about what it is you want…” She must have known what it’d be like for her if she drank from him. But he also knew the undeniable attraction they had for one another; despite how long Caroline had tried to fight it. She felt something for him, something far beyond that of mere admiration.

Klaus watched as she teetered to and fro, paced back and forth. And then it happened, the inkling feeling she must have gotten, a single stroke of fatal weakness and she fell. Nearly collapsing Klaus wrought his arms around her waist just as she descended upon his wrist. It was her weakness, but also her greatest strength that made her lose out and fall before him. He smiled and wrapped her in his strong arms before moving them to the living room sofa. Laying her down softly as she slowly drank from him. Eyes vain from the thirst as he spoke to her slowly.

”Atta girl.”

Could Klaus see the tear that was running down her cheek as she lost herself into feeding from him? The swirl of emotions, guilt and everything coming to the fore, only to be washed away as she swallowed mouthful after mouthful. Caroline was carried onto the couch in the living room, and there the two of them lay, with Klaus’s back to the side arm, his Caroline laid out against his body. Her hold on him only grew, for the blood was replenishing her – saving her. Stronger she would become from this selfless act to give her his own blood. Would the price for this be too great to repay?

But then her body stopped being so rigid. A wave flowing through her, rekindling her and all due to him. The shallowness of her breath became more steady, and the lines of worry were slowly dissipating, leaving behind her gentle face that was growing more serene by the moment.

https://i0.wp.com/img3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20130208040503/vampirediaries/images/9/9f/Klaus_feeding_caroline.gif

Why was it, that Klaus always had a habit of picking the times when she was in the greatest need to be her savior? Did he watch over her the way a Guardian angel does a child? Was it something from his past that had brought him back to her now, to try to show love. Did he even know how to love? Caroline fought the feelings and buried them deep within herself. But now…as she fed upon him, the lid was lifting off those feelings. Rising…higher. She responded to his remark “Atta girl” with a small moan. Pleasure? or was it something more?

For now, Klaus had her in his arms and their bond was now cemented in blood.

The Cabin

https://charlottecarrendar.files.wordpress.com/2014/03/aaca2-trees20at20sunset.jpg

The time that Shane and Carmen had spent up at the cabin together had truly restrengthened their bond, and left no shadow of a doubt for their commitment to each other. But like all good things, a vacation does come to an end. The sun had finally set on the lake, and as the skies became a mix of pinks and gold, the cabin would soon come to life again as the couple awoke from their daytime slumber. Only when the sun had finally gone over the horizon, would the shutters and screens be lifted up from the windows and doors, to allow the moonlight to filter on through.

The night before had been a wild consummation of their love in both forms. Shane lay fast asleep naked on the large fur rug that was near the fire place, with large scratches still prominent upon his back. At the clicking of the internal switches to the shutter systems, he stirred slightly before grumbling and wrapping his arm tighter around Carmen.

The Wolf that had dashed out of the room hours earlier, when things got a little too freaky, had returned and was curled up not far from the sleeping couple. The animal had become attached to the pair and though it was still suffering from the injuries inflicted by the hunter, it was more than willing to keep guard over the sleeping vampires.

The constant panting sound of the wolf finally roused Shane from his sleep, and he opened an eye lazily, only to see the big muzzle of the wolf a little too close for comfort. It’s doggy breath was not the nicest thing to wake up too.

https://i0.wp.com/d2tq98mqfjyz2l.cloudfront.net/image_cache/1368646332590129_animate.gif

“This…better not become a habit.”

Shane said, starting to stretch and then gently shook Carmen, to see if she would wake up.

“Rise and shine, it’s sunset.”

They had a lot to do when she did wake up, aside from getting dressed, packing, getting rid of the hunters gear, the hunters themselves, and lock up. You know, the usual thing you do when you leave an a cabin in the woods.

Shane kissed the top of Carmen’s head and went to sit up, realizing he was nude. The Wolf was all too happy to watch. This made Shane a little self conscious and he grabbed a cushion to cover his privates.

“Do you mind?”

The wolf just wagged it’s brushy tail.

With the setting of the sun brought forth the end of a most wonderful vacation for the younger vampire. Despite the little setback with the hunters, Carmen had spent a pleasurable time with Shane and wished they didn’t have to go back to the “real world”.

The clicks and whines of the security shades opening had Carmen mentally groaning. “Just a few more minutes, please?” her thoughts rumbled as she slowly was pulled from the land of dreams. Shane’s arm tightened around her waist as he lay snuggled against her and she hummed contentedly, not wanting to move yet. It was rare when Shane was awake before her, much to her amusement.

He finally stirred when he realized there was an animal breathing on him.

“This better not become a habit.” she heard him state and had to resist the urge to laugh. She felt him move and a hand landed on her shoulder, shaking her gently. “Rise and shine, it’s sunset.” She groaned as he kissed the top of her head and rolled over onto her back, stretching her naked body langoriously. She was pleasantly sore in places she never dreamed possible and it made her grin impossibly wide. She turned her head to look at her husband in time to see him cover the lower half of his body with a cushion, the wolf sitting close by and staring at the two of them. She giggled as he glared at the wolf for staring.

“She just knows a good looking man when she sees one, baby.” Carmen mumured as she lay there for a few minutes, not even bothering to hide her own nakedness. She was beyond such things. The she-wolf seemed to understand and wagged her tail in agreement, moving around the couple to Carmen’s side. Carmen gave her a scritch behind the ear before the wolf moved off to the kitchen in search for something to eat. She really was a smart wolf. She placed one hand over her stomach and the other behind her head, looking up at Shane as he sat beside her. “Do we have to go back?” she wondered.

The Cabin

The sad fact was they had to go back. For one, they both had un-lives there. Shane had cases to work on, and people to bring down, you know, the way things were before he meet Carmen had not suddenly changed. The wolf had padded around to Carmen to be scratched, then wandered off to the kitchen, allowing Shane the chance to get up and go get dressed without being watched.

“You know the answer to that, love.”

Shane tossed the cushion onto a nearby couch and then racked his fingers through his hair. He lifted his right shoulder slightly and made a bit of a grunting sound since he still had deep scratch marks that weren’t healing fast enough for his liking. Carmen in her full form had really let him have it. Carmen was stretching out on the rug, still on the floor. She was not at all bothered about being naked or seen by the wolf. Then again much of her inhibitions had been stripped away as she came to embrace her true self. Shane just stood and stared at her for a moment, as though lost in his own thoughts, before snapping back to reality.

“Those bags aren’t going to pack themselves, and I didn’t bring a blood doll to do the housekeeping. So…” Shane turned on his heel and took off up the stairs, to go and get dressed and start packing.

When he entered the bedroom, he could see his cellphone was flashing. Shane thought that they were too far out of range for the cell to even pick up a signal, and was a bit surprised. Not bothering to get dressed first, he picked up the phone and started scrolling through the messages. One, was from Marissa.

~Text~

To Shane.

Shane, we may have a problem. I don’t want to text it, but when you get back call me to meet you, it’s urgent.

Marissa.

Shane’s brow creased as he wondered what on earth Marissa was on about. He knew she was handling things for him at his office, so it could be related to work, but this sounded like something away from work. His eyes narrowed slightly, as he tried to remember the cases he had lined up. Nothing out of the ordinary. Two murder trials and one of corporate embezzlement. Shane started to type back a text in reply.

https://i2.wp.com/i39.tinypic.com/5ytc0o.gif

~Text~

To Marissa,

Carmen and I are on our way back tonight. Get everything ready in my office, or come met me at the house. You know the drill.

Shane.

That done, he tossed the phone on the bed, and started to get dressed.

Central Train station.

https://i2.wp.com/realneo.us/system/files/Cleveland-Amtrak-Station-P.gif

The number 54 train from Linkinshaw was running suprisingly late. An old frieght locomotive that had not been in service for sometime had appeared on the schedule, much to the Central station Master’s surprise. He had been following its progress, as the train was running well past midnight and with a skeleton crew on at the Central station, there was really nothing much else going on. The usual commuters were all tucked away in their beds and the city slept. Well…most of the city. Standing on platform five was a dark figure who was about six and a half feet tall. Dark skin and a balding head, with a long scar across his right cheek.

Interestingly enough, security cameras on that platform….saw nothing.

The faintest of light was seen in the darkened underground tunnel that led to the Central station. On the platform, newspapers were whipped up by the surge of wind as a dull fog seemed to be now rolling across the platform all coming from the same tunnel.

Up in the control room, the blinking light again showed number 54 was on the move. the Station master eased forward in his seat – his cigarette burning low as he squinted at the large monitor.

“What the hell?” He thought to himself. It was going to stop on platform five, but that was a commuter train stop. Freight trains were meant to go on nine and ten. Curiosity got the better of him, as he reached for his hat and then stubbed out his cigarette. There was no on on platform five. None…that he could see. He pushed himself out of his chair, and taking his report chart and whistle, he left the control room and made his way down to the platforms, but as he left the room, all the train lights on the monitor, suddenly came to life. Two trains changed tracks, and were on a collision course.

Down on platform five, the mystery frieght train came rolling into a stop. The dark man grinning to himself as the wooden slatted freight carriage marked #115 stopped right in front of him. He slapped his gloved hands together and strolled towards the locked door of the carriage, and placed a large key in the brass lock. It opened with a grinding snap and unlocked. The man tossed the lock away behind him, while up ahead the driver got out of the main engine and started to walk down slowly, holding a red lantern. He walked with a noticeable limp and growled low as he approached the larger man who was trying to open the wooden door, which groaned and creaked as it slid on unoiled tracks.

Inside the carriage was a trolley and a large wooden box. It had Romanian letters down the sides and it was large enough to contain…a coffin. As the dark man entered the carriage to get out the box and wheel it with the trolley, the Station Master approached from the stair well.

“Hey! What is this train doing on number five platform? Where is your identification pass?”

He was speaking to the driver, who now ambled slowly towards him, but the faint light offered no clue as to the man’s identity. All he did, was growl in response. The Station Master was getting annoyed and pulled out his report clip board. Checking the time table, he shook his head. “This train should not be here.”

Suddenly a voice behind him said.

“It’s only…a hundred years late.”

Turning around, the man dropped the clip board as he saw a beautiful raven haired woman approach. She licked her lips, but it was clear as she came into view, that she had elongated fangs pressed on the outside of her full lips.

“That’s impossible.” The Station Master said, now starting to back up. He ripped up his whistle that dangled on his chain and went to put it into his mouth, as the woman darted at speed and seized the man by the throat with her right clawed hand. “Ah ah ahhh. No one..is going to hear you.” That said, she brought up her other hand to the top of his head, and then twisting forcibly, she broke his neck, letting his lifeless body fall to the ground.

https://i1.wp.com/i1.bebo.com/042/8/large/2008/01/12/20/4493810770a6601775472l.gif

Laughing, she took a glance inside the carriage and uttered. “We don’t have much time, Rhekas. Let’s get the box and get out of here.” The dark man nodded and tied up the wooden box to the trolley, and started to back it out of the wooden carriage, while the driver came up alongside the raven haired woman, and started to nuzzle her neck affectionately. She stroked his cheek as though she had some affection for him, then lowered her arm as she fell in behind the dark man, who wheeled the wooden box to the nearest lift. The train driver then grabbed the arm of the dead Station master, whose eyes were staring out soulessly, and took him back up to the front engine of the train.

The lights changed to green as the train started off again, while on another track that was in a populated area of the city, two passenger trains were on a collision course. With no one to stop it.
