I am so excited to let you all  know that LadyBelz; my co-writer and best friend has started the “A Pirate’s Life RPG”

http://apiratesliferp.com/index.php

What started as a side project when Death Club was on pause, became a fun filled action role play that has some very memorable characters, as well as loads of adventures, some of which you can read on my or LadyBelz’s blog.  LadyBelz and I both welcome role players and writers to come check out this site, if you are interested in joining in the stories.

Rules as per posted by LadyBelz – Administrator:

1. YOU MUST BE 18+ IN ORDER TO JOIN THIS ROLEPLAY. There are some adult situations involved and I have to conform to COPPA standards.

2. No OOC drama. You got a problem RL with an RPer, you keep it between the two of you. You bring it to my RP and I kick you both out.

3. No modern stuff…your pirate didn’t come back in time with a cell phone. Leave that in the 21st century.

4. You can be whatever you want as long as it fits the theme of the RP.
Example, you can be a mermaid, a pirate, a officer of the British Naval forces, a voodoo witch, etc etc,
but you cannot be a time traveler, a dragon, a robot or anything that does not
conform to the theme and ideas of what being a pirate is all about.

5. No godmodding. I will ban you so fast you’ll wonder if your ass was on fire.

6. There is no limit on the length of your posts. Para-posting or short two line sentences, I do not care.

7. Please do not start a new thread on your own. If there is a particular scene or setting that is needed for your character,
please post up a request in the Request thread. I want to try and keep the threads as clean as possible.

8. There are some seriously adult situations in this RP. If you are uncomfortable with something, you have no reason to be here.

9. If you are using photos in your posts, please do not hotlink the photos from the sites you are taking them from. Most sites do not allow hotlinking their photos and there will be severe penalties involved if you do so (one such example of this is replacing the photo with an offensive graphic). There are free photo storage sites you may link from that will automatically give you the coding to use here in the forums. It’s all a matter of saving the photo to your computer and then uploading it to your photo storage. Anyone hotlinking photos from non-storage sites will find their posts edited and the photos removed until they are replaced. I have provided links to such sites, all you would need to to is sign up for a free account. IMAGES CANNOT BE LARGER THAN 500X500 PIXELS!!

Free Photo Storage & Sharing Sites:
Photobucket: http://photobucket.com (the one I use the most)
Imgur: http://imgur.com
Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/

10. There is a “3 Strikes and You’re Out!” warning system in place. Depending on the violation, will depend on what actions will be taken.

1st Violation:
A warning will be issued & posts will be moderated for a specified amount of time agreed upon by myself & the moderators.

2nd Violation:
3-day ban from posting.

3rd Violation:
One week ban from posting.

Any violations beyond that, and depending on the severity of said violation will result in either a month-long ban or a permanent ban.

10. There will be individual threads for the different areas of the RP. If there’s a scene you need for RP purposes, please post a request in the Request Thread and I will make it for you.

11. HAVE FUN!!! Because that’s what roleplaying is all about.

Empress Watch on IMVU with Char Char.

Yes, Ladies and Gents, …..Empress Watch is BACK!

-cameras all turn, as the producer gives Char Char the nod. The make up boy scurries off the set, leaving Char Char looking glamorous on the set-

5..4..3..2..1…..and action!

And welcome back to another episode of Empress Watch.

I know, you are probably wondering, just where has your favourite reporter been hiding, and well, I been catching up on a lot of role play, but never fear, cause when IMVU has a pulse, Char Char is always watching.

-turns to camera one with a stern look upon her face-

Okay guys, you all know that once a year, the Queen of England, gives her speech to the nation, and her Commonwealth on the state of things, but in a rather poignant and respectful way…even if her family act like total douches, she keeps a stiff up lip, and shows decorum no matter what….

On IMVU however, Monarchs have a habit of getting onto pulse, and virtually tearing their hair out, ranting, screaming, and basically trying to defend their actions when it comes to their ….-ahem- nocturnal pursuits.

“Course I am an Empress!…Just cause I wear PVC fuck me boots, and two shoe strings, does not mean I am a slut!”

-ahem- Not only that, they cry woe is me, raising their 100 + adopted and pushed out kiddies, how it is so so so so hard, cause half of them are such ungrateful little shits, that don’t spend enough time in the Kingdoms, and wow, “THEIR” children, they don’t show respect towards the Empress…..cause like, you are supposed to show respect to someone that has a dozen abbreviated letters on their SN…and never..EVER sit on their thrones…-whispers- might endanger their ass print….I don’t know, and will never get that in a million years…I mean why so obsessed over a freaking chair? IT’S A CHAIR!

And wow, Empress has a new Husband, so you all gotta see the love and nurturing going on….-fake laughter inserted- Yeah more like…Ooo why has Mummy made the room AP all of a sudden with the naughty furniture?

But seriously…if I have to read another freaking pulse, about how hard it is to raise an IMVU family of pretend kiddies, in a public room on IMVU, paid for with credits, that you BUY with real money….I am going to physically puke.

Char out.

When we do a period or specific era role play, many of us dress up our character’s to suit the theme. So say its a medieval role play, the characters usually wear clothing that would be available in the age of that era. Same goes for weapons, the weapons carried, or strapped on are those that were able to be either purchased or manufactured, forged in that time setting.
If you were doing a role play about Camelot, and the knights of the round table, you would expect them to carry long swords, wear armour, etc. Right? Last thing you would be expecting to see, is having them rock up in a pair of designer jeans, PVC boots…and a knitted see through top, listening to dub step on his iPod.

Then there are the Royal ladies….-ahem-

Now to my mind, in medieval times, a Queen or Empress, looked a bit like this…

https://charlottecarrendar.files.wordpress.com/2013/01/ea5ac7c35617.jpg?w=247

Okay, that is a real step back in time, but you get the idea. However, in some medieval roleplays on imvu, we have seen Empresses look…more…like this…

https://i1.wp.com/www.beautyden.com/celebrities/pics/angelinajoliedominatrix.jpg

Uhm….yeah…well…I have seen it myself. (lol)

If there is a good example of a Queen, then I can’t go past “Queenie” from Black Adder.  She definitely looks the part.  No offence to Angie.  ❤

No time to wait.

I have often laughed at how fast role play character couples have children.  This sums it up nicely.

Perfecting Your Villain.

Perfecting Your Villain

Without a bad guy, heros are merely decorative. They need opposition, an antithesis. Whether your villain is a mad scientist, a paranoid psychotic, a towering control freak, or merely the other woman (or man) in the protagonist’s life, he needs to be something more than a prop that hinders the hero’s progress.

Your job — your challenge — is to create a villain your readers will understand and perhaps unwillingly sympathize with. His (or her) purpose in life should not simply be to act as evilly as possible, but to achieve a goal of their own.

Scheme. Yup, go ahead and do it. Hole your villain up in his secret hide-out, cackling and merrily plotting the demise of the Hero du Jour. Display the wonder of brain versus brawn, virtue versus deceit. But don’t forget to act! To be a successful villain, your character must leave the virtual safety of his tower and DO something. Until he’s up to his elbows in diabolical activities, he’s just a noisy nuisance.

Small victories can be huge. No villain can be a villian without some proof that they are a threat. It is painful to have your hero seem to be unable to handle his nemesis, but it is crucial to making your villain believable. The most important thing is to avoid is having your villain and his henchmen defeated despite overwhelming odds in their favor, so keep in mind that your bad guy and his (or her) henchmen should be a valid threat to your hero’s safety, and more importantly must not ever be seen to be a group of nimrods led by a complete incompetent.

Give the guy some character. Who wants to fight paper-doll adversaries? Where’s the challenge in that? When it comes down to it, your villain is human (or humanoid…) and humans have flaws, be they good or bad. Swirling capes and dastardly looks work best in comic books or cartoons. If you want your bad guy to be believable, make him out of flesh and blood. The more unrealistic the villain is, the less meaningful the hero’s eventual victory. Your villain needs to be a worthy opponent. Put as much thought into his creation as you did in creating your hero. Give him strengths as well as weaknesses. Why does the villain do what he does, and why does he think that his deeds are justified?

Evil is as evil does. Seriously, how many villains actually believe they’re villainous? Whatever the scenario, the villain is firmly convinced of his own righteousness. His actions are rational and — in his own mind — justified. There is a reason he acts the way he does. Letting your reader in on the way he thinks and feels intensifies your story and heightens the emotional impact. Giving him the honest ability to win confrontations with the hero strengthens both characters.

Lastly. Guess what? The villain doesn’t have to die in the end! They may not even be doomed. Some of those that have lived long, long lives are just as interesting and appealing as the heroes are. Remember, “He who fights and runs away, lives to fight another day!”
Char ❤

Sticky Thoughts – “What you wanted to know about Role play, but were too afraid to ask.”

“What you wanted to know about Role play, but were too afraid to ask.”

Ever been intimidated by a roleplay room, or a particular roleplayer?

Ever been told in ooc…….

https://i2.wp.com/3.bp.blogspot.com/_HBTFORb4rP8/TOAK0RP3UbI/AAAAAAAAEks/kPBZ7X3jm4s/s1600/bill-murray-you-suck.jpg

We all have. And for the most part, a lot of people think its a lot harder than it looks. But the truth is, its actually quite easy and enjoyable, if you pick up a few basic tips.

On this blog, I am here to help you enjoy that next role play that you wish to be a part of. No more of this…

http://t3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQIgCm4KmzY0dQNN6J8PQWgJf_kT848sItoea_fhacuuEI5QoZac73M6Cw9

So, to get the ball rolling, we look at Entrances.

There is so much more to entering a room then a simple *Walks up to the door and opens it* “Greetings.” That is pathetic and unoriginal… there is no spark, no imagination to it, and if there is no imagination, then your RP is practically worthless.

Wishing to be a good roleplayer, whether you are playing a vampyr, demon, god/goddess, human, elf, slave, etc., you must strive with every fiber of your being to go above and beyond any other RP you have seen. You must put effort into making your character the epitome of their kind. One very quick way to do this I have found is finding an alignment. Alignment will help you stay in character and help you know how to post. It also gives you A LOT of extra material to put into your post. When I say Alignment, I’m referring to those mentioned in Dungeons and Dragons: Good, Neutral, Evil and Lawful, Neutral, Chaotic. This is used to decide your characters demeanor, a key in RP. Is your character entering in a bad mood? A good mood? Are they out for blood or do they just want a nap? Are they depressed or lost in thought? Perhaps they are frustrated or maybe overjoyed. These are questions your entrance post must answer.

Once you have decided this, you have a jump start in presenting a fine entrance. Now then, how can you accomplish a successful post? Description. Detail. You as the typist, must view yourself as an artist. The words you type and present to others are your paint and paintbrush. The canvas? The minds of those who are reading your posts. Describe the sounds your body makes, its reactions to certain scents as you approach, the way the light is hitting you. Para RP should, when done properly, read like a book, and like in a book, the characters are described. What is your character wearing, how tall is she, what does he look like? Describe his voice, the shape of her body, the style of garments he’s wearing, any accessories which might adorn her skin. Is it a certain time of day? What season is it? Does the light hit her a certain way, casting shadows over your characters face? Have you just come from a fight, would you be bruised?

Many people use portals, windows, holes in the ground, etc., for entering a room. While these are all fine and dandy, and I love seeing them when done with amazing detail, often they are left lacking. Don’t forget about a good ol’ door, as 99.9% of places you will visit have them. Do you barge right in through a door or do you knock and follow societal standards ((Personally, if someone tried to come into my home without knocking, I’d probably kill them and claim self defense or call the cops, even in RP)). What is the door made of, what does it feel like when your hand turns the knob, the rush of the air from inside hitting your skin. If you are entering from a window, what does the sound of shattering glass hitting the floor sound like, how does it feel beneath your feet? You are entering from a portal. How big is the portal, does it reek with the aroma’s of the place you are traveling from, can we see into the other side from it?

This may seem like a lot, but really it is not very hard. You don’t need a twenty line post or even a 5 line post to accomplish the basics for an entrance. Even if you don’t cover all of these points, as they are just guidelines, applying a few of them to your post that you don’t already do can dramatically improve ones entrance. Remember, never copy someone’s entrance post or style of entrance. The beauty in RP comes from being unique!

Sticky Thoughts – Character types and combat versus non combat.

Character types and combat versus non combat.

I think a lot of people tend to forget that not everyone fights. Many role play in different ways, different settings, and some stories involve absolutely no combat whatsoever. While worrying over losing a character due to some threat, such as an assassination, or kingdom war, you have to realise, that it is up to the typist, if they so chose to partake in the story. If a warrior trudges into a tavern for example, and decides to go on a murderous spree or start a bar fight, there are those that will hop in and fight to make for a great scene, and others that will flee into the night.
Question : Are players who have non-combat charas considered any less credible or less of a role player than those that take part in combat?

Quite simply, No. You can have a character that refuses to fight, since there is nothing wrong with playing characters that are not battle trained or knowledgeable in the arts of combat. Most characters that do fight, should learn to master their weapons abilities in character any ways. And this does take time to play out. Keeping a record in your bio history of events of mastering skills or acquiring spells, shows other readers that your character is properly developed in their story line. All to often, you come across those with a tonne of abilities, and weapons skills, and you sometimes blink and wonder where they came up with it all.

Why do some role players prefer to do combat roles?

Simply put when coming into the role playing scene, I found it challenging to learn how to do T-1 as it was an exciting new way for me to role play, and so I came up with my first spider character, which I thought at the time, unique to go to battle against. To me it was a game of chess, but I had to remember, to keep in the confines of her abilities and weapons she used, not straying out and learning that you can’t win all the time. Not everyone wants to fight, and I guess the big question you have to ask is, Why?

I read over and over of how some folk spend a great deal to set up their role play, their character avatar, their name token to match the one character that they play, and how hurt they would be if they lost that character. Now, you can draw conclusions as to why there is such an attatchment to a single character. Some use the character as a self expression virtual version of themselves in a fantasy setting, however not everyone does this. If money is the reason for upset about name changes, a good way to ensure that you only have to ever buy the one name, is to get a name that means nothing in particular, and then on your tagline, write the name of the character you are playing. You can even use your interest panel for this as well, and so if you do lose a character, you are not having to go and buy a token, thus saving your pocket. Also, under a no name handle you can play as many character as you wish, thus opening up a whole new world of stories and adventures. I personally have over twenty characters under this account name, and as crazy as that sound, many I know are considered “multi character” accounts.

Yesterday I heard that there is still some rumour that when your chara dies, you have to unfriend everyone and leave all groups your in cause your character died?

“DAFUQ?!” Just…no. No no no. You’re not dead, the character is. All you need to do is write up a new chara sheet, change your look and off you go, new chara. Sure, this new one may not know the other characters your former character did, but that doesn’t mean you the typist have to unfriend all on your friends list. Pulse is a great way to announce a character change, and thus keeping people up to date. Then just do your new intro into the old rp setting and off you go. ❤
