For those who know, an Aussie Christmas lunch is not complete with a bowl of Prawns on ice, to compliment, the hot foods, that are either barbecued or roasted, like chicken, turkey or ham. But more and more Australians, are turning to Seafood on the big day. Being that I am down with family this year, I made the annual pilgrimage to Morgans Seafood, to get the family all the seafood to be served tommorow. But, blow me down and call me Shirley! The line up was out the door and down the street. And, I turned up half an hour early. I had my list. Ocean king prawns, Moreton bay bugs, Sydney rock oysters, and sushi (my fav).
Now last year, Large ocean king prawns were going for about $33 AUD a kilo. Not bad. But this year, they were $47 AUD a kilo. Same with the bugs. Kinda blew my budget a bit there, but I bit the bullet, and bought what was on my list, (cept the sushi, damn bar had closed there). So…another set of shops, more Christmas shoppers on mobile phones, holding up the lines for the checkouts, and all for a damn bottle of thousand island dressing. Go to the bottlo for the Brown Brothers white wine, and managed to get that on special. Was blown away by the people fighting for a park in the car park. I swear that every man and his dog, comes out on Christmas eve for that last minute splurge. I can imagine the retailers were relieved after such a bad year here. I FOUND a sushi bar and got stocked up. Prawn and avocado, Tuna and Avocado, and… Californian rolls. Did I mention, that I love avocado? (yum) -wipes brow- Yes, I am loving Christmas eve, now that I am back in the air conditioning.
I know on Christmas day, I will be eating prawns, sushi and drinking white wine in the sun. A dip in the pool. And sleeping in the heat of the afternoon.
Happy Christmas to all. ❤
